Cake Cutting Fee

Maire, on February 19, 2018 at 9:31 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 7
For those of you bringing in a cake to your reception from an outside bakery, are you being charged a cake cutting fee, and if so how much?

Hi Maire! We went in-house with our cake, because if we brought one in from an outside vendor it was going to be a cake cutting fee of $3 per slice!! 😮

Here's a community discussion about cake cutting costs that got a lot of responses and should be helpful:

We are cutting (pun intended) cake cutting costs by having a fake cake with a small 4in tier for my FH and I to cut. The cake that will be served will already be cut and on the dessert table along with other desserts! Not a huge cake fan so the cake that is served will be minimal and substituting for other desserts!

I’ve seen cutting fees anywhere from $50 in total to $3 a person! Thankfully it’s included in my venue If we bring an outside cake.

Cake cutting fees are absolutely ridiculous! I would never choose a venue where they would charge me for something like this! We are having small cakes and cupcakes along with cookies & brownies on our dessert table so we don't need to worry about this.

Our cutting is complimentary but they will charge us if we need forks and plates. If it's expensive I'll just pick up some disposable ones, as nobody will care by that point. Also looking at cake alternatives, since cake isn't really something I care a lot about, though there is a particular cake topper that I NEED to get. So will have to figure out a way to work that in, one way or another.

We negotiated the cake cutting fee from $3 a person (roughly $700) to free! Try negotiating with a venue before you sign if they want to charge you.

We are not having a cake cutting fee. However, we did consider a venue who did have a cake cutting fee, and decided we could just do a tier of cupcakes. This would have actually allowed us to have many more flavors. We decided to go with the venue without a cake cutting fee for other reasons, and thought we might as well have a cake since cake cutting is included.
