Cake, Cake, and More Cake

I am really struggling with this whole cake(s) purchase thing.....lol. They are soooo expensive! Is it a must that you have both a wedding and a groom cake? Has anyone considering using the bakery at a grocery store such as WalMart, Kroger, Sams, etc. So far I’ve been quoted close to 1K for 2 cakes....

Grooms cake isn’t a necessary if you don’t need/want one! I know people will get a small, simple one tier or two tier cake and then have a sheet cake cut and served to guest! Costco cake is seriously so good if you have one near you...honestly better than some fancy cakes that I’ve had a weddings.

Were there any leftover, or did your guests love them that much?

We are going to go to Sam's and get a small circle cake that we can cut. Then getting cupcakes in the color. All from Sams. I love Sam's club cakes! They're always so moist. Can't beat $16 for 32! We are going to get them in our colors then add baby breath or pearls on them!

For the groom cake, we are going to do something small for the rehearsal dinner. Nothing magical.

There were leftovers. When we originally decided to have the donut towers, that was the only dessert we were going to have but later decided to add a s'mores bar as well and my MIL apparently wasn't happy that we weren't having a actual wedding cake to do the cake cutting with so she literally came with an entire wedding cake lol. So there were a lot more dessert items than we planned.

The leftovers were taken to the after party though so it all worked out.

FH and I plan to do a cutting cake and then either sheet cake or cupcakes from Target/Walmart/Costo/Sams. We haven't thought about the rehearsal yet!

You do you!! We are planning on a 2-tier wedding cake and a smaller 1-tier cake that will be lemon, which is my MH favorite. Definitely not the typical chocolate groom's cake. Also, I've found that the semi-naked or naked cakes are better priced! Fondant is the most expensive option.
