Cake and punch reception.

Toni, on May 13, 2019 at 11:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
Good morning brides and grooms! I was wondering who else is having or has had a cake and punch reception? If you are I just want to hear about what you plan on serving/served for food? Are you doing a punch or different beverage? Will you serve alcohol? Any other important details?
thank you!

FH and I most likely will be doing s cake and punch ceremony! My sister had her wedding two years ago and for serving they had their little wedding cake which was for bridal party and immediate family only while the other guests got sheet cake that was delicious!
We won’t be serving alcohol because it’s too expensive, so we will have lemonade, water, sweet tea and maybe Dr. Pepper because it’s FH’s favorite. We also will be having cheese platters, fruit trays and veggie trays as well as other minor appetizer items.

I have heard about doing the sheet cake as well Smiley smile it’s fairly common around where I live to do that (saves so much money!) will you be doing a champagne toast or no alcohol at all? I think we will also do a meat/cheese/cracker display, fruits & veggies and maybe one more snack Smiley smile

Sadly, I’d we wanted to do the champagne toast then our venue asks we have their bartender on sight and it costs an extra $800+ so we decided we will have either sparkling cider or we kind of tossed around the idea of champagne gummy bears!

Wow! that’s so much 😭 i think a sparkling cider would be just as good (and way cheaper) and I love the champagne gummy bear ideas! I saw somewhere you can soak the bears in champagne, freeze them and use them as boozy ice cubes maybe you could mix the ideas ❤️

I've been to one, they literally served drinks & cake and that's it! The only alcohol was champagne then they had different kinds of pop, lemonade, iced tea, flavored water, and coffee.

I've been to one and I think this depends on the venue! My friend had heavy appetizers, cake, cookies, and a few drinks that included alcohol. She had a white sangria and a red sangria in those big pitchers. Then she had beer in coolers so everything was self serve. They also had tea, lemonade, and water for kids and adults that didn't want to drink! If your venue allows alcohol, its a nice touch but not needed. There are cheap ways to do alcohol if money is the issue!

We're not and I'll be the first in my family/friends to serve a full meal but I have been to many cake and punch receptions that turned out well.
Alcohol is not served. Typically they're held in churches where alcohol is forbidden. The tastes don't mix well and the sugar from the cake when combined with alcohol makes you drunk very quickly.
Usually a sherbet or fruit punch is served in addition to coffee. No other food is generally served. There might be a tray of cookies or cream cheese mints but not much else, because it becomes an appetizer reception when you add other foods.
