Buying Silverware/Dishes

Laudie, on March 25, 2013 at 4:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 7

Does anyone have experience buying silverware/dishes instead of renting? I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to buy in bulk and then resell to another bride-to-be. I just want standard silverware and white plates.

Where did you go to buy them?

Date twin!! I am planning on buying rather than renting. I am going to get my plates from dollartree.com they have free shipping to store. Silverware will come from Wal-Mart. They have forks and spoons and knives for like 5/$1. In store. Probably will end up selling on craigslist when it's over and keep a few for future family get togethers and/or future baby showers and such.

Date twin!!! You are the first I've seen :-)

Thanks for the info...Is there an option online for your silverware that you can get that price or just in store?

I'm Thinking Sane Thing. dollarTree Has My Black plates, And Buying At Walmart For $0.20 Each Its Better Than Renting At 55 Cents Each. I'd Buy plates From Walmart, BC They Have $1 Ones, But They Wouldn't Have Enough At One Store. Guess I Could Try Several Stores! Probably Gonna Buy Wine Glasses Too, Its Like $4/4, So It Works, Plus My Mom Would Take Allot Home And I'd Keep The Rest, Or Sell Them.

Dollar Tree for plates. We purchased a ton of forks at Sam's Club awhile ago but I can't remember how much they were.

Don't forget that buying it means you also have to deal with it. That convenience is worth the bit more.

A good compromise might be using heavyweight plastic plates (like the ones that look like china, with the gold rims?) and rental silverware.

We're using disposables that look real. They probably cost close to the price of real, but like Celia implied, we don't have to deal with them after.
