Buying shoes online from China - sizing help

Michelle, on August 29, 2017 at 4:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Hi!

I am step-mother of the bride and I'm helping her source things for the big day (October 21). We have finally found a pair of shoes she wants but they are coming from China (although the company, Stacee's, appears to be in the UK, I'm fairly certain China is where they will be made). She wears a size 6.5 US normally but according to the company's size chart, going by the cm measurement, she would be smaller than a size 3 US!

I know ordering from China isn't the ideal but she was very specific in what she wanted - things like burgundy color, closed toe, round toe, short heel - not many wedding sites carry burgundy shoes.

Has anyone ordered online and if so, did you go by the size chart? That is, did you order your shoe by the actual measurement of your foot or did you order your usual size? Thanks!

No, not on Amazon. JJ's and Stacee's. Stacee's will at least let you return them but I worry about the time they will take to be made and arrive.

The chart reflects what you said ie a 9 US would be a 7 UK but it's the measurement in cm that doesn't line up with the size she normally wears. Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my post so I've edited it. Thanks Smiley smile

I doubt they'll get here in time.

I planned to order from Stacee's, not JJ's House.

I can't say about your particular site, but in the past, I have always purchased items based on the sizing chart specific to the product. No experience with shoes, but I generally wear XS clothing and many times I have purchased sized M based on what the size chart said and it fit.

One word of caution: shoes are about more than just size. If poor quality materials are used they will be uncomfortable. Maybe look for backup options as well?

Thanks MrsC2B. I suggested a back-up to her as well. The reviews (4) are good on this particular shoe but I know that ordering anything online is tricky business.

4 reviews are not impressive. I'd look at getting shoes dyed.

The shoes are not for me and they are what the bride wants. So, I'm really just asking about the sizing thing. Thanks.

If I were you, I wouldn't even bother buying these. Chances are it will turn out to be a hassle and a waste of time and money. Go to an actual store and see if you can find something she likes. With the wedding so close, you really shouldn't chance it.

This sounds like a gamble. Try to find reviews of the company online and see what they say about sizing?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you can find a similar dye-able shoe at a place like David's Bridal. Have it dyed, then take to a seamstress to add the rhinestone and bow detail?

At least have a backup plan.

OP, we know it's for the bride. With shipping and the potential size issues, it may not be the best idea.

I know it's a gamble and a big one. But she has looked locally. We are in a small city and don't have a lot of choices. She wants a low heel, not a flat or a wedge, closed toe, round toe and burgundy (or dyeable). Even online, there aren't many to choose from. Google "burgundy closed toe shoe" and you'll see what I mean. Most of the heels are too high for her.

Reviews for these type of companies are almost always about dresses. I have found very little about shoes, except for on the actual product page.

    David's Bridal has nothing similar.

You've all given me warnings, great. But can someone tell me where I can buy the shoe I described, online, from a reputable seller then? Thanks so much.

I would suggest emailing the company, but that can get tricky, especially if they don't speak english well.

If you have the budget for it, i'd buy both the 3 and the 6.5 and return the one that doesn't fit.

I've ordered one pair of shoes from a chinese store on ebay and ordered true to size and they fit well, but i'm sure it varies from company to company.

    Hi Arrie,

When you say 'true to size' do you mean you ordered your regular shoe size?

I did hear back from customer service. Like everywhere lately it seems, at first the response was generic - here is our sizing chart etc. In the end they advised me to follow the cm measurement, not go by the size number.

I think it's probably the best idea, order both pairs and return one. I simply can't find the shoe she wants anywhere else. Even the dyeables that come close to what she wants are from China. I've warned her she needs a backup but warnings are not going to stop her from ordering the shoe if it's the exact one she wants for her wedding day.

Thanks so much for your input.

If it's jjs house I'd say find something else. I recently ordered a corset from there... took my measurements on the spot and compared to their size chart. Normally I'm a small and their chart had me as a large so I ordered a medium and it's still too big and they refuse to return it even though I ordered it based on their sizing.

It's not JJ's House. It's Stacee's. The customer service agent said this "If the item does not come right according to the order after you try it on, you can contact with our aftersale department to return and get refund even it is custom made."

So, as I said above, I got the warnings Smiley smile I understand what you're all saying. You're telling me to tell her she's basically crazy to order these, thinking she's going to get a nice shoe or one that fits well. Got it.

But does anyone have any helpful suggestions or site recommendations so this bride can actually get what she wants? Thank you.

If shes dead set on a specific shoe, try shoesofprey.com they do custom shoes s9 she should be able to get exactly what she wants, but because they're custom, theyre expensive. But I'd do that before ordering from China.

I would definitely have a backup. I ordered a tank top for 4th of July once that I didn't realize was coming from China. I ordered in may and it took almost 3 months to get to me. Did not come in time...Not sure if it was customs or what but I'd worry with the wedding so close!

What about these on Amazon... 206 Collective Womens Queen Anne Suede Kitten Heel Dress Pump, Burgundy, 8 B US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4WOHNB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SKHPzb2EMWYYW or these LifeStride Women's Peace Pinot Noir Pump 8 M (B) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DV97A0Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_wLHPzbKCMDJ4D. There's actually tons of options on Amazon, if you scroll a little bit. All I did was search burgundy heels. I think by including "closed toe" in your search you're likely limiting your results.

All you have to do is search. It's not up to us to find these shoes.... if you don't want our advice, don't post on here.
