Buying Engagement Ring Online?

Stacy, on July 20, 2014 at 7:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18

Is it safe to buy wedding rings online? I have a bit of anxiety when it comes to buying in person, so I'm looking to the internet for safety...but now I'm worried about sizing issues and what the diamonds look like. Tips and advance, anyone?

We got my engagement ring and both of our bands online from bluenile.com. They look great!! They will send a free ring sizer to you before you purchase so you can figure out what size you are, and I would recommend checking every day at different times of the day for a few days before ordering. My ring ending up being too big (FH guessed my size), so we had to have it resized (Blue Nile will resize for free, but you have to send it back and postage w/ insurance can get kind of expensive-- about $40). They had really good customer service and the resizing took a little over a week.

I have bought plenty of jewelry online (rings included). READ ALL THE SPECS! Usually it the description will tell you the actual dimensions of the ring or have a picture of the ring next to a ruler and so on. You can either print out a ring sizer or us a soft measuring tape and google it. Worse case scenario you hate the ring, just return it. I plan on buying FH ring online.

FH bought my e-ring through overstock, and we'll probably buy wedding bands there too. He knew my ring size so had no problems there, and they give you info on the cut, clarity etc. on each listing from what I've seen. They have some really beautiful rings for a fraction of what you'll pay in store- super happy with them so far

FH got mine off Helzburg website. It was too big,but we had it resized after I wore it with the little metal thing to keep it from falling off for awhile showing it off.

Depends I guess where you buy from but I was super excited and happy about my e-ring purchase and did my wedding ring both from seeing it in the stores and then tracking the artist down via his fb page and asking if he would make it in white gold with a diamond instead of sterling with a gemstone. So far super happy!

DH bought my e-ring and wedding band online from Amazon and I bought his from eweddingbands.com. We both love them. Read the specs and make sure there's a return policy.

We got my engagement ring from Brilliant Earth and had a great experience! I looked around in stores, and you get SUCH a better deal online.

Yes check all of the specs! There is much more to the diamond than the 4cs. For example a diamond with strong fluoresence will glow in the dark! Many diamonds on blue nile that are priced too good to be true usually are just that. Good luck!

FH got mine online from Zales, and my matching band as well. It's one of the online only rings, so I thought he did a good job Smiley smile

It's very safe if you purchase a ring from a reputable source. On top of the 4Cs, check their shipping and returns policy, warranty, customer service, etc.

If you are worried about what the diamond will look like, definitely shop online at James Allen, they are the only online jeweler that I know of who offers a Virtual loupe view of each diamond they sell. You can rotate and view the diamonds at up to 20x magnification. It is awesome, and kind of addicting.

Here's an article about shopping at James Allen

And here is a link to their current coupon code which gets you 15% off their settings when you design your ring with them. Valid till 2/14.

    Hey everyone!

Since I am currently helping my bff to choose a band, I was looking for inspiration on the forum, came across this topic and wanted to share my experience with online ring buying.

Anyway, I am veeeeery picky when it comes to rings since I have few jewelry pieces I wear all the time so custom made e-ring and bands were my only choice. I have great experience with https://www.azeera.com/ ( a recommendation from a friend). They have a wide choice of metals, gems etc. and what was important to me also (since my ring had a diamond) they have a strong policy that all the gems are ethical and conflict free.

I will send you the pics of my friend's ring and he experience as well (she is ordering from Azeera as well)

It's fine as long as you do your research and go to a trusted website like Blue Nile etc. Lazlo Jewellers on what to look for when buying online: https://lazlo.ie/blog/buying-engagement-rings-online-vs-in-store/
