Bustle - What did you do?

Michele, on June 6, 2019 at 1:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

So I am in love with a dress, but while trying it on the consultant showed me what she would do to bustle this type of dress (small shop, she does alternations also) and I hated it. Or I thought it made my butt look funky or whatever. So what did you do for a bustle or what are you planning to do? Or in other words ladies "show off that bustle"!!

The bottom of my dress is all tulle and I personally hate how bustles look, especially on tulle. I don't think I've ever seen one that I didn't mind. I just think that, on tulle especially, they look awkward, messy, and just bunched up or it falls weird. I had my entire train (cathedral length) removed from my dress just to avoid having a bustle because that is how much I dislike them lol. I know for many people this wouldn't be an option as they love their train but I'm only 5'1 and petite so getting rid of the train made the dress look so much better and less overhwleming on me.

This is the plan. Obviously on both sides. I'm sorry, I don't have great pictures. what kind of silhouette is your dress? That might make it easier for people to suggest.

Thats pretty! How long is your train?

I haven't bought the dress, because I still have tons of time and do not want dress regret at all, but it's an A Line.

I thought about having no train but everything everyone liked has a train. And I have waited a long time to get married so I want the more traditional dress.

I don't have a great picture of it on my actual dress, but here is the sample I tried on when I chose it. I'll look for a line bustles to post.

My dress is very simple like a crepe fabric. I have an under bustle. It is a bustle between the slip and outer dress. I'm getting married next week so I'll post a pic then.

I had a really long train so the bustle was a mission. I ended up building 2 because for first dance I wanted a pretty one and the one we created made the dress look like I had an overskirt but I only had it on the back so made the train smaller, still long but smaller. The second one was soooo complicated because I wanted to look decent and I didn’t even wear it because I didn’t want to miss a minute of the party to figure this out. Sorry I don’t have pics to show you.
So ny advice is figure it out mostly for first dance and cake cutting something with a small train that can be handle and then for the rest of the night it won’t matter. I danced with it like that and not a lot of people step on me. When doing choreograph dances I simply picked it up and put it on my hand and it worked perfect.

My dress is A-Line/Ball gown and do not like the look of most bustles. I was thinking of maybe seeing how I would fare with a wrist strap bustle. I have tried googling pictures of my dress with a bustle but haven't had much luck.

I’m on the mobile site so I can’t post a pic directly but here’s a link. I have a a-line dress with an American / ballroom bustle. I actually adore it and feel like it suits the dress really well.

I bustled because I wanted more freedom to have fun and enjoy myself but I didn’t want anything hanging directly on my butt so I opted for a little but lower of a bustle and a French bustle so it was more of just a fold

My dress was a silk chiffon with several layers so the bustle that worked the best was a 12-point French bustle.

Daughter's dress was a very full-skirted a-line, with a fairly long train. She loved the dress, but was adamant she did NOT want to look "like she was pooping tulle," as she so tactfully put it.... Luckily, the seamstress was a genius and suggested a three-point over bustle for the lace and tulle layers, BUT with the bustle buttons at her waist, rather than lower where the "pooping tulle" visual was more likely. Then, they did a three point under-bustle for the satin lining layers. When the dress was bustled, it just looked like a full ballgown without a train -- it was completely straight at the bottom! Daughter loved it!

I am not a huge fan of how bustles look either... I just used a wrist strap to hold up my train during our reception! I actually got tons of compliments on how it looked. Even when dancing, it wasn't in the way at all. It was actually kinda fun to be pulling my train around with me hahaha. Felt very princess-y Smiley tongue Bustle - What did you do? 13
