Bustle for Tulle Wedding Dress? Help!

Camille, on July 14, 2016 at 10:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Help! My wedding dress has an entirely tulle ball gown skirt with a train. It has a petticoat with more tulle underneath. The top layers are kind of scattered to have a draped effect. The problem is that I don't think I can dance at my reception without stepping on it or having it be stepped on by guests. I really, really do not want to buy another skirt for my reception, as this is my dream dress, and buying a new skirt is putting us over budget. However, I've heard it's near impossible to bustle a tulle skirt, especially one made in this particular way. And cutting the tulle is not an option. Please help! I do know some tutu seamstresses (I work in dance), but I don't know if they've ever tackled such a task. Anybody ever go through something similar? What did you end up doing? I've attached a few pics of the skirt, sorry for the blurriness! Any input would be great!

Ok now I'm scared. My dress has a tulle skirt too and it's really long and has a train. I didn't even think that it would be an issue getting it bustled.

Oh wow, I never thought of this, but my dress isn't tulle. I absolutely love the skirt though! Good luck with everything! Let us know if you find a solution.

This type of dress calls for an Austrian bustle (which I think are amazingly beautiful).

I also have a layered handkerchief hem dress that is tulle. I am not sure what type of bustle I got, but it has 6 bustle points in various areas on the back. I also got one on each side to pick up the sides a bit.

You can totally bustle tulle. My seamstress put loops in mine. She went through a few layers for each. I had a 5 point bustle with an additional 3 points under. It's possible don't worry!

ETA if you can find my BAM I don't have the link I think there's pictures of my dress with train and bustled.

I've got a similar skirt with the different lengths of tulle, but not quite as long or full. I'm doing a multi-point bustle with LOTS of points. The seamstress made a ton of different attachment points to bring the skirt up all around the back. It ends up making the skirt a lot more fuller and rounded but floor length, almost like a mermaid-style gown's bottom if that makes sense.

Your skirt is gorgeous! I would start asking various seamstresses in your area about what they can do. I'm sure you want it done well so this may just be one of those things where you pay a little more for good quality.

You can definitely bustle tulle, it may end up being a three or five point bustle (you'd have three or five hooks/buttons vs. one) I personally think it looks beautiful bustled. I googled 5 point bustle, and this is an example of what it'll can look like.

ETA: This is a traditional bustle, you can do a French bustle too, a seamstress can show you the difference when you have the skirt on. Your skirt is FIERCE! Love it!

Just went to a wedding where the bride had a tulle skirt and I'm pretty sure it had a five point bustle. I don't have any pics, but it should be doable. Also, your skirt is a dream even in blurry form!

I have a full tulle ballgown skirt and my seamstress just did a 5 point bustle (on the under petticoat and again on the tulle overskirt). It looks great and was not a problem for her.

I love your skirt. Its what dreams are made of!

So no, do not have one of the costumers do the bustle. Costumers are AMAZING but you know the stage rule... You need it to look perfect with clean lines whether your looking at it from 3" away or 30'

Tulle is completely possible to bustle it just may take more points because they have to be careful of the weight each bustle holds.
