Bury the Bourbon..

FordGrl, on July 30, 2013 at 5:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Is anyone else doing this? I am looking for southern traditions to include in our wedding. What southern traditions are you ladies including in your weddings, if any? We are getting married at a plantation, and having a country / rustic theme. I am open to suggestions, but the parasols are out. Too old fashioned for me.

I've never heard of this. What is the point of Burying the Bourbon? Is it a real bottle of booze? Are you supposed to dig it up again after your first fight? Smiley laugh

I'm not from the South, so I don't have any suggestions.

Yes, it is a real bottle of Bourbon. You are supposed to bury it upside down exactly one month prior to your wedding. It's supposed to keep the rain away.

What about cake pulls. I thought the idea was neat, very southern and each bridesmaid gets to keep the meaningful charm they pulled.

I would do it but I don't have a large bridal party.

Is the cake pull for the bridesmaid's or single ladies? I love that idea as well. I will have to look into that. Thanks.

It's for the bridesmaids, and I'm doing it :-). I can't bury a bottle of Bourbon though. That's just a waste of good alcohol ;-) lol.

With the cake pull, my bms will also get a little gift coordinated to whatever Charm they pull.

Don't forget sweet tea, armadillo grooms cakes(steel magnolias reference lol!!!), and pearls!!!! Pearls galoooore girl!!! Lol

I know. I hate the idea of wasting alcohol. FL weather is so unpredictable so I need to do whatever I can for good weather.

Lol Ford, do the rain dance!!!! My family believes in sending the kids outside to shake their arse in the rain to make it stop, or send them out before so it doesn't ever start lmao!!!

I'm country, so I'm skipping the limo etc...the groom will arrive in his Mach, and I'll be behind the guys with my girls in a canary yellow FX4 lol!!!

Hell yeah to the FX4.. I have the Ranger FX4 level 2.. I am actually getting my ears pierced as I received a pair of pearl earrings. I reckon I'll be the oldest girl to get my ears pierced.

We aren't having a limo either. They are way overrated!

I am burying bourbon! We are getting married at a Vineyard in KY and anytime I visit it rains. I need to cover all my bases so we have clear skies day of.

We are having a bourbon bar during our reception so I figure if we run out I can make the guys go on a scavenger hunt to find the buried bottle. Or my FH and I could dig it up next year on our anniversary Smiley smile

Also, doing a twist on the cake pull and just having the charms put in cupcakes for my bridesmaids.

I saw on one of the bridal shows once a woman put brooms in the tree next to her house. It is supposed to keep rain away. I don't know the story behind it, but it didn't rain on her wedding.

We ar doing this. We aren't from the south, we live in NY. One of my bridesmaids came across this tradition and suggested it for us. The tradition is that you bury it exactly one month prior to the date and then dig it up after the ceremony and drink with your bridal party. We absolutley loved the idea and thought digging up the bottle would be our favorite pictures. Now for any of you southern brides I have a question. We are getting married on September 13th and today (august 13th)is 31 days prior and its raining, should we wait for the rain to stop, can it be 30 days prior?

    Hello,

I am wondering how specific do you have to be regarding the ONE MONTH rule.

Example: Our wedding is Saturday Oct 4th. Does that mean we bury September 4th (Which is a Thursday) or 4 weeks before (would be September 6th a Saturday like our wedding)

    Thanks y'all!
