Bunching on dress

vghjfcxgxfgdh, on March 24, 2017 at 1:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

So I picked up my dress a couple of weeks ago. Everything was correct as far as measurements go, however when I tried it on, it was TIGHT around my hips (I'm blessed with what you would call a "squat booty"). Because it is so tight, there's a lot of bunching in my hips, and it's making me really self conscious. The lady at the bridal shop said it looked perfect on me and I don't need to make a single alteration aside from a bustle. Some friends who I have shown this picture to have said the same and that "I'm crazy" for thinking otherwise. However, every time I look at this picture, my eyes are immediately drawn to my hip area and not any of the intricate detailing. Ugh. I know this is common with mermaids but I feel like mine is very noticeable. Can a seamstress "let it out" so that the dress fits a little more on the sides or will that ruin the dress? Will spanx make it look smoother?

It looks beautiful on you! If it feels tight though, I'd have it let out. You want to be able to move and sit on your wedding day!

It's a beautiful dress, but I hear what you're saying. That's why I decided against getting a mermaid or a trumpet shaped dress. I think letting it out a little bit would be alright, since then it's not so tight on you. But I have no sewing ability whatsoever, so take that with a grain of salt.

Look into alternations. If you are all muscle I don't think spanx are going to do much for you except make you hot and uncomfortable. Have you tried sitting in it? If it's tight while you are standing then you run the risk of ripping it when you sit down.

I would probably let it out a little, because the bunching is a little distracting. It doesn't look horrible, but you want to look your best on your big day!

I second Jennifer, did you sit in it? If its too tight to sit, I'd see if she can let it out a little. Its definitely easier to take it in than let it out, but it can be done a little bit

Thanks for all the responses so far! I definitely needed to hear what I have needed to hear so far. People keep telling me it looks fine but I think theyre just trying to be nice. I sat in it but it was VERY stiff. I've also tried to be really strict with my diet and workouts to see if a few less pounds might make a difference. ETA: spelling/Friday brain

If it's tight when you sit, have it let out a bit. I agree with you that the bunching is distracting.

I would take it to a seamstress for a professional opinion. If you don't feel 100% beautiful and perfect in the dress, it's worth asking if something can/needs to be done.

Letting it out won't ruin it right? The place I bought it from does not do any in house alterations so I have to take it to one of their 5 reccomended seamstresses. Little nervous about it, but I'm looking on Yelp to decide who May be best for me.

I'm afraid if you let it out it might not hug your hips the way its meant to.

I think it should be let out a little bit. I have the same shape of dress, and the same was a bit too small and pulled at my hips like that. If it's the right fit it will hug your hips/butt just barely but not enough to pull.

I think they just need to let it out just a smidge. It shouldn't bunch like that.

Have a seamstress let it out! Bunching / rippling like that means your dress is too tight, and letting it out a little bit won't ruin the dress at all!

Your dress fits similar to how mine will - and I have the same issue with the curvier hips/butt.

My bridal salon told me to order it in the size I measured overall and then the seamstress will let it out a bit in the hips. It won't effect how it hugs you - it will just remove the bunching issue.

Don't worry about it ruining the dress - that's why dresses are made with seam allowances. Just find a reputable seamstress and you'll be fine!

That dress looks amazing on you, but I do see why you have an issue with the bunching. I don't know if spanx will help because it looks like your tummy is quite flat, and spanx generally don't flatten the booty but lift it, which is not what you're aiming for. If it was difficult/tight to sit in it, let it out! Who cares what anyone else says, you want to feel comfortable and look your best! I know everyone says it's difficult to let gowns out but I actually had mine let out around my waist because it was bunching up under my boobs, and it was no problem. My seamstress told me most garments are made with a bit of extra fabric on the inner seams so that they can be let out a bit. I did 1/2 an inch on either side and it made a world of a difference and doesn't need that much fabric to do so.

I agree on letting it out also. You want it to be comfortable.

Thank you everyone for your responses. You all have made me a less-stressed bride. I found a seamstress in my area with great reviews who seems like she would be perfect for the job. I will post an update when I can!

    It's really noticeably tight.

If there is a seam allowance your seamstress should be able to take it out.
