Buffet style dinner with or without staff

Linnette, on September 12, 2017 at 10:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hi, I am evaluating the different options for catering my wedding. We are definitely having a buffet style dinner. However, we are debating if we just have the food delivered and not have any staff vs getting staff through the same restaurant delivering the food or hire separate. Anyone has an experience with just putting out the food (and drinks) and having people serving themselves? Thanks!

Staff. You do NOT want to have to be worried about keeping things clean, about replacing food when it runs out, or anything else that could possibly come up during dinner. We did buffet style, and our catering staff kept things flowing so smoothly. They also cut our cake, and helped with the dessert table.

Staff is better. It will feel more formal and they will ensure that the food does not run out before everyone is served.

You need staff. For set up, clean up, crowd control of portions and clean up.

Have staff man the buffet. What will happen when you run out of something and it needs to be re-filled? When we have buffets we have about three banquet staff manning the buffet to replace any food item that runs lows and we also serve crab cakes...(when on the buffet). They will clean up the buffet and make sure there are plenty of plates, food and makes sure the area stays clean.

I think having the staff will take away a lot of stress and make things so much easier for everyone involved.

I will have staff/servers. I've been to numerous weddings with a serve yourself buffet and some people take way too much leaving others with no food.

I'm having staff at my buffet to help serve people and so it won't be so unorganized. Also to answer any questions people may have about the food.

Definitely staff. My caterer said she's seen self serve buffets where guests take MASSIVE portions and clear out that whole category of food. Staff will make sure the portions are appropriate for everyone to get plenty of everything
