Buffet reception?

I'm so torn in my opinion about buffet receptions. I feel like if you have a classy enough venue with quality food that a buffet doesn't come across as super tacky but as a guest at a wedding it is really nice to have your food brought to you instead of waiting in a line. Thoughts? Opinions?

I love buffet and that's what we did. People were able to eat what they wanted and have as much as they wanted. And it was cheaper.

We are having a buffet. More variety. My family and friends are so laid back. The last thing on their minds is walking up to get food. Do whatever you want to do. It's your day. I don't think it's tacky at all.

I went back and forth on this. I am so impatient that I generally don't like wedding buffets myself plus I usually think of them as being cheaper even though they aren't. In the end, I decided to go with a buffet for a few reasons

    1. Venue makes it move fast by having people on both sides

    2. My dad who is 6'5" does not get served the same amount of food as a smaller person

    3. Guests can have both entree types instead of one or the other

    4. I didn't have to deal with asking for a managing meal selections

    3&4 were the biggest reasons

ETA: our chef was a professional and made the buffet look great. Edible flowers and edible decor everywhere. Our meals were $50 pp plus 22% gratuity and 10% tax so definitely not a cheap meal played or buffet.

I personally prefer buffets because I prefer picking out my food rather than having an assigned meal. I've been to both types of weddings and that's my personal preference. I feel like with buffets you can try a little bit of everything. I also don't like wasting food.

It depends on how many people and how many buffet lines there are. I've been to buffets where the line is so long and they run out of a dish and you wait for the replacement. I've also been to ones where the line moves, and the food it always got. For my venue played was $10 a person cheaper.

I hate buffet weddings. No one wants to wear nice clothes and have to carry their food around or miss out on food they want. I would be less likely to eat what I want going to a buffet wedding because everyone's always staring and impatient. If you can avoid it you should.

"We're having a black tie wedding with a buffet."

    Huh?

I don't think buffets are tacky. We are doing buffet, but we chose high quality items to serve.

I've been to weddings with both. I don't mind either. I'm a picky eater so sometimes I'd rather have a buffet so I have more options Smiley smile

We're having a buffet for a few reasons. It's cheaper per person so we can offer even more options within budget. Also, our caterer is amazing and I know I personally couldn't choose between our options, I want them all! As PP said, if you have tables called up one at a time, it goes quickly especially if the staff is good
