How many quotes did you all get from photographers and florist?

I've gotten one quote from a photographer (looked at some other's pricing online) and was pretty happy with it...it was just slightly more than I was looking for originally spend

Then I contacted two florist both gave me quotes that were more than I expected. The 1st florist I wasn't really upset as I didn't really like the "vision" she sent with her quote (it wasn't exactly what I'm looking for) then second florist was even more but I loved what they came up with for our wedding. They hit the nail on the head with their "vision" I was so disappointed when the quote came back 1300 dollars more then I originally planned to spend.

Am I over simplifying? Do I need to be getting more quotes then I'm thinking?

The word "wedding" doesn't make the price go up. The fact that it's a once in a lifetime event with photographers, video, and an extreme amount of pressure for everything to be perfect does.

For photography, I was lucky I have a friend who's a great photographer so he cut me a deal for my engagement pictures and two wedding days.

For flowers, I'm not using any real flowers. I'll be making a silk flower bouquet for tossing and then doing purse bouquets for myself and my MOH.

You should go to bridal shows for vendors- they often will give good deals- I got a $5000 photographer package for $1850

I only do weddings so there is no price difference in my services as far as events go. There is so much more at stake doing a wedding in comparison to say doing a birthday party. Yes an event is an event, but there is much more emotionally wrapped up in a wedding.

Just make sure your photographer knows their stuff. Cheap ones usually leave you high and dry. If their portfolio has mostly table settings and candids, move on. You need to see good ceremony, family, and action (cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc) photos.

You have one chance for good photos. Don't settle to save a bit of money. My friends did a couple months ago and they're still kicking themselves.

Few pieces of advice for you.

    1. You're starting the process early, so that's always a good thing.

    2. Create an itemized budget, instead of going with a "total" number that you want to spend for the overall wedding. This is exactly how brides go over budget. Even though it's work through research, it helps in the long run.

    3. When you create your itemized budget think about what's most important to you first, also think about what's least important or if you plan on DIY'ing. For example, if cake isn't your thing, don't spend billions on one...do something different or go with a more cost-efficient option.

    4. Absolutely talk to at least 2-3 vendors. It's the only way to see what's out there and if the vendor can meet your vision, expectations. You will also have the opportunity to see the differences (style/personalities) among the vendors, compare the types of products/services they offer and see who works best for what you need.

    ...continued...

    5. Don't be afraid to ask vendors for suggestions. Say "I really like your product/service, but my budget is $xxx. Are there any substitutions I can make to stay within that number". They may have to get back with you, but most will try to work something out, even if substituting one product/service for another. If not, at least you asked. If the vendor's demeanor shifts or it seems like a hassle, they may not be the right vendor for you anyway.

    6. Since we only have a few more weeks until the end of the year, some vendors are offering discounts to contract now. Check websites, social media - find out if this pertains to any potential vendors before contacting them.

    All the best...
