I just had a thought about wedding budgets and I'm wondering what all you ladies have found in your own wedding planning process. I just had a thought about wedding budgets and I'm wondering what all you ladies have found in your own wedding planning process. Do/did you have one lump sum all at once for your budget or are you paying for things over time? I'm doing a little of both, (waiting for the tax return, lol) and buying small things out of my paychecks now. My thought was, have you spent more or less money doing it one way or the other? I'm thinking I may spend more over time purchasing things as I go. I wonder if I just had one lump sum, if I would stick to that amount more seriously? Thoughts?

No budget really... paying as we go and choosing things we like and can afford.

Paying as we go...I'm making bi-weekly payments to our vendors...when I get paid, they get paid...FH has been putting up the down payments & will pay off whatever is left that if can't pay off with my schedule...he also paid for my dress...this is how I feel as though I'm helping to pay for our wedding...I feel pretty good about the way I have it structured...I'm hoping to have everything just about paid off by September :-)

Lump sum. We have a budget, when that money is gone, then it's gone.

Aside from a few small purchases everything gets paid in full from the lump sum.

We had the money to pay for everything in one lump sum, but we just did what our contracts asked for. Our venue asked for deposit, then 50/50 payments. My photographer had deposit, then 60% then the rest when the pictures were delivered to me. Only my MUA and band asked for full payment. We were able to not touch a single penny of our wedding fund for personal use, but it was really tempting sometimes to see all that money and know that half of it was going to pay off the wedding.
