Budget breaking quotes

We just got a huge wake up call with a quote from a caterer today for a wedding of $75. Nothing fancy and with all the taxes and linens and plates it was nearly $5k. Now we are considering using plastic plates, cups, silverware etc. my question... have any of you all had experience with this? We are already researching buying linens ourselves but wanted to reach out for ideas.

Thnaks.

It depends how many people you have , we are also paying around 5000 for 90 people but the catering offers all the tableware, personally i wouldn't serve with plastic plates and cups only if it was a simple backyard BBQ style wedding, maybe go to the thrift shop and see how much they cost or just rent them!

Our venue included plates and silverware and drink ware but we bought our own linens and it worked out great! Was way more cost effective.

You might compare buying your own to renting the items you need. Remember if you buy you still have to clean them / iron them before the wedding and do the same thing afterwards if you plan on reselling them, and you have to store them. It might actually save you money and/or time to rent as opposed to buying everything individually. Is there another company out there that can do all your tableware and linens for one price?

Our venue is providing the table cloths, but we bought thick plastic plates, cups, and silverware to save on costs! The ones I got are really sturdy and pretty! We’re also using very thick paper dinner napkins.

We purchased our tablecloths, fabric napkins, and runners from tableclothfactory.com. They were $222.00 for 20 tablecloths, 20 runners, and 200 napkins. Our rental quote was $10/tablecloth and $0.60/napkin. We're buying plastic plates from poshparty and buying the plastic silverware, cups, champagne glasses, paper napkins on amazon. My guest list is around 150, I'm buying enough for 200+, and I'm spending around $300 for the plates, cups, silverware, etc.

We're planning on using disposable plastic plates, silverware and cups. I was going to splurge a little on custom cups, but our caterer told us we could buy the exact same plates and silverware he was selling at Costco for a lot cheaper than he was offering it for. Amazon also has some great options too.

That doesn't sound completely far-fetched for a wedding. But keep looking around and getting quotes from other companies.
