brunch Wedding- Food

han, on January 25, 2018 at 3:52 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 33
We are looking to have a Sunday morning ceremony and then have a brunch reception but really only have breakfast food. There are no caterers who can do what we are looking for so I was just posting here to ask ideas on do it yourself food bars, waffles, biscuits and gravy, toast/ bagels, fruit, pasteries, bacon and sausage, omelet bar

i know people hate self catering but the goal is to have just a relaxed big brunch celebrating love and I don’t want to change our idea because people think self catering is tacky because we can’t find anyone around us to do it. We would hire a few people to be behind the scenes and make it work, and not enlist family.

I would think that breakfast food would be very had to self cater. It's had enough to keep breakfast food warm when I make brunch just for my husband and I.

Look at restaurants who serve breakfast to see if they cater. Think outside of the box. I know a lot of catering companies who don't usually do breakfast, but have the capacity to do so because they're based out of a restaurant. Self catering breakfast would be difficult, there's so many thing to keep warm and prep.

You can absolutely find a caterer willing to do just breakfast foods because that is exactly what we are doing. In researching, I had to request a lot from caterers about what breakfast items they could do - a lot don't have breakfast items on their website/catalog. You are going to have to do some research, but it is 100% possible! With the caterers you reached out to, are you just looking on their website? If so, you need to go a step further and email/call them. Our venue has an in house caterer and didn't have any breakfast items listed (just dinner) but I asked them and they said, oh yes, we can absolutely do breakfast items, lets sit down and lets build a menu!

Best thing about that is you are usually doing a custom menu so you have a lot of freedom and the prices are lower. We are having assorted pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, country potatoes, bagels with lox and a waffle bar! $32/person.

DO NOT self cater breakfast. That would be SO hard. I promise you, most catering places are totally fine doing breakfast, you just have to ask!

We're doing a Sunday Brunch wedding too! Looks like we're getting married around the same time too, great minds think alike Smiley smile We're fortunate enough to have a caterer who can accommodate but here are some of the things we're doing:

-milk & cereal bar (so inexpensive and will be great for the kids!)

    -biscuits, gravy, jams, etc.

    -breakfast meats

    -eggs

    -donuts

    -southern grits bar

    -coffee bar

    -Bloody Mary & mimosa bar

Stop by D&D and grab a bunch of donuts and put them out, maybe even bagels if you want to splurge. They sell boxes of Joe too with all the fix ins.

How would you have an omelette bar without someone to actually make the omelettes? Or are the guests making their own omelettes?

She could prepare them in advance, then set up a microwave for guests to reheat?

There was a poster on here about a week or two ago and she found a catering to do this exact same thing. Maybe you should review the vendor tab and keep looking. Don't just look at their menu ask them directly. They may customize it, breakfast items may not be listed. Hopefully the poster comes back and can share her caterer with you.

A lot of vendors will happily customize. I am meeting with mine on Saturday to discuss a custom menu. Just start asking.

Also, dependent on the venue, you can bring in outside pastries or work with a specific baker whose pastries you really love but then have a vendor do the rest.

How big is your guest list? Do you have a favorite breakfast place? Can you potentially rent the breakfast place out for your morning reception with a limited menu?

I find it completely, 100% unbelievable that you can't find a caterer to do a brunch. Keep looking. You will find someone.

Also, as someone who can't eat eggs, I implore you to have other options besides breakfast food.

Definitely keep looking. A lot of the caterers where I live also have breakfast menus because of their corporate clients. I’m sure they’re be able to accommodate a brunch wedding too.
You have a lot of options with breakfast foods but I would also include more “lunch” options because some people don’t like breakfast foods or will have both breakfast and lunch items.

Really? The caterers won't do brunch? I get not being able to do full on breakfast foods, but brunch also includes eggs, salads, fruit, etc -- surely they can do that. We had quiches, frittatas, bagels and lox, pastries, salad, tuna fish and deli meat with rolls, and more.
