Bridesmaids of different sizes

Kayla, on January 10, 2016 at 2:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 39

So I have several different bridesmaids and they are all different sizes.

Two are plus sized (size 14-16 gorgeous), one is tiny (size 0 petite) and the other three are average human size (size 6 maybe).

These ladies are busty so strapless is not exactly a good option, but budget is definitely a factor. I would like to keep the dresses under $100 or very very close to $100. I may have to buy the dresses for two of my bridesmaids because they are always struggling financially.

So how do I find a dress that fits all their body types? I can't seem to find one dress which comes in a size 0-16. I want them all to feel beautiful in their dresses. Do I need to ask all of them to take a day off of work and go dress shopping?

    "average human size" -LOL.

Azazie has plus sizes, and you can even get them a different dress if you want to (same color, material and length). They have a ton of dresses at $99 and they send you samples to try on for $10 to make sure it works!

Honestly I have the same issue with all of my bridesmaids being different sizes and body shapes being an issue I told them what color and length I wanted and told them to pick what they think would look best for them. I know that the mismatched dresses aren't everyone's favorite but it's good if you have such a variety in bridesmaids

I have a range of body types in my bridal party also, so after some inspiration from Pinterest and thinking outside the box I went with skirts and tops for my girls. It actually cost me way less than the average cost for bridesmaid dresses.

David's bridal, Alfred Angelo, any bridal store will have the sizes you're looking for. 14-16 isn't that big, so they will definitely have options. Also, strapless is usually better for bustier people because they can actually hold the dress up.

I also decided on Azazie because my BMs are out of state and have very different body types, styles and ages. I chose the color based on my preference, then the fabric and length for practicality at a beach wedding. My filters left them with over 30 choices.

I'm in the same position, so I've opted to have different, yet similar, dresses so that they're all flattering. I have managed to find one dress that they all seem to like, so we're going to try that at the fitting.

Would you want them all in the same exact style? I'm picking out a color (probably at davids bridal since they're all over the place) and letting the girls pick out the styles they most like. My only two requests are that it needs to be a long dress (this way they can also save money on the shoes they want) and that it's the same color which they would get by all of them going to the same store.

My bridesmaids were all very different too. We went to David's Bridal and they all tried dresses on. I told them to pick what they wanted. I just said the color and length. They all ended up loving the same dress so that is what we went with. David's had lots of options.

I had scoped out some smaller stores ahead of time, but none had enough stock (sizes) for all of them to actually try on a dress.

Caitlin: Azazie has many beautiful dresses I haven't seen before. Thank you for recommending it!

Deitra: Mismatch is not my thing, and the idea of someone coming in with a dress that isn't the correct color blue would be more nerve racking than it is worth.

Haley: I never considered tops and skirts, so I will definitely have to check that out.

Emily: I went to David's Bridal in Atlanta, and their selection was very limited.

Did you ladies have them buy it online or at a boutique to be fitted?

@Kayla they're available, you just may need to have them ordered. I just wore a size 20 David's Bridal dress yesterday.

Emily: I am sure if I set an appointment for the bridesmaids, it would be better than when I just browsed their bridesmaids section to see if there was anything I liked.

Definitely! Most of their bridesmaids dresses are samples. If you can't get them all together, you can always get at least one of each body type together to see how the dresses look. We found our bridesmaids dresses at a bridal boutique but I chose something that would work for everyone. I was in a wedding yesterday where all the bridesmaids picked their own dresses in the color navy and long. All the colors matched very well and looked great together.

I have the same thing! One of my BMs is actually 6'2! I picked a dress for them that was a hundred dollars and when I took them to try them on, they actually picked a dress that was $139! Have you thought about letting them choose? I have 5 BMs and 2 are wearing a one shoulder and 3 are wearing a halter - they are the same just different styles. David's is great about this! If you buy your dress there, they get $20 off and a $20 shutterfly gift card.

If size 6 is average...then I give up!

Actually your "plus size" girls are "average human size" but whatever. I would consider giving them a color and line( David's bridal, Azazie, Or really any bridesmaids dress designer) and let them pick the dress that works best for them. I think I am going to go with Azazie. I've heard good things, though I haven't actually used them myself.

Have you considered doing mix-matched dresses?

I have a group of gals that have very different styles, tastes and budgets.

So I choose a color of dress (blush pink) and length and then let them go to town. It could be sparkly, glittery or long sleeve or strapless! The gals are all really happy to pick something that matches their styles. And the ones who can spend alittle more and happen to be more picky don't complain because they CAN. And the ones who are new moms and on a major budget can shop around for a bargain.

One gal found a dress at TJmax for $25, one girl ordered off nemain marcus.

Plus like you I have difference sizes. My MOH is a slender tall girl, and my sister is transgender and finds it super super hard to shop.

    Here's the inspiration picture.
