Bridesmaid's hair, same as brides?

branmarie1591, on April 22, 2015 at 4:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

Ugh, so I already made a post today about my FSIL and drama with my MOH. Well that drama just got worse (I will update that post).

Anyways, a few of my bridesmaids asked about how they should get their hair styled, and all I asked was for it to be an updo, off their shoulders and simple. I sent them all my inspiration pictures. Well my FSIL just sent me her inspiration pictures and 3 of them are the exact same pictures as mine, and the other two are more elaborate than mine. Am I wrong to ask that her hair not match mine or be more elaborate? I'm just over her today.....

Your hair will be done last out of everyone. Let her do her hair however she wants, but tell your stylist yours better look better than hers when she is about to start yours.. lol.

Even if she does has better hair, she won't upstage you on your wedding day.

I don't see anything wrong with telling her you were planning to wear your hair that way, and could she pick something else (and include some suggestions).

I wouldn't rely on your hair stylist to make sure that your hair turns out "better". I also wouldn't suggest getting your hair done last-- some stylists prefer to start with the bride to ensure her hair gets done.

I did ask my BM to not do a side pony that was similar to my hairstyle but if she felt that it made her look the best, I would understand. My BMs didn't want strict updos because it makes their faces look round. Soooooo I can see both sides.

I understand where you are coming from and if it were me, I would tell her you prefer a more simple hairstyle for everyone. For my wedding, I asked that the "girls" not do a half up do and no curls (except my cousin who has naturally curly hair, I was fine if she had curls, But she chose a straight style).

Honestly? I would tell her that she can't have her hair styled like that because that was the hairstyle you were planning on having.

You're the bride. You're allowed to have dibs on your hairstyle. There are thousands of other hairstyles she can pick from.

I agree with Celia- no one will notice. You will also have a veil that will cover your hair. Maybe put in a hair piece, and that will set you apart and make the style look different.

Unless you guys have extremely similar hair (color, thickness, length), updo's modeled after the same inspiration pictures will look totally different. I wouldn't let this bother you too much.

Sounds like my sister in law. Don't change your vision for one person. Tell her you want the bridesmaids with their hair up because you want to be the only one with it down. Maybe people won't notice, but you will and you have to be happy. I took my veil off so people definitely knew my hair was down.

@melissa- my hair will be an updo as well. And I know a few others said no one will notice, but you're right, I will.

Also, is it hard to work with extensions for a hair stylist? She wants to put in hair extensions that day to achieve this updo?

Seriously, nobody will outshine you. You're the bride. Let her wear 8,000 extensions if that makes her happy...she won't look better than you. She just won't.

Saying something to her will make you seem insecure. I would let it go.

I was actually just wondering about the extensions in terms of how long it would take the hair stylist. We have 5 bridesmaids for 1 hair stylist.

That's a question you need to ask your hairstylist. Does she need the hairstylist to actually put the extensions in? I'm assuming that would cost extra, right? And take a significant amount of time? I've never used extensions so I have no idea.

Yeah she would need the stylist to put them in. I will definitely chat with her about that at my hair trial Smiley smile

Maybe frame it as a time crunch thing... obviously your hair will likely take the longest, and you don't want to be shorted after everyone else has their crazy complex hair completed, this would be a real concern having 5 bridesmaids. So maybe request they do a simplified version to save time. Beware, this can be maybe not so welcome if they are paying for their hair themselves, they should be happy with what they are paying for. All in all, if you are really that worried about it just be honest.

No you're not wrong. Seriously, I really don't like conflict and I'm willing to let stuff go to keep peace. But on my wedding day I'm the star and I want to feel and look like it. So I would tell her, that's the style I'm wearing and she will have to choose something else. My goodness it's supposed to be our one day to have things our way, why can't people just respect that. IMO anybody that doesn't have my best interest at heart wouldn't be in my wedding party at all. Sorry if this sounds harsh but I'm just so over being pushed around myself.

I think that's the thing @MrsMoBright, I'm tired of being pushed around at this point. She has had issues with the shoes, accommodations (which we are paying for), hair, bridal shower, etc. I'm just over it and I would like to be a little more dolled up than the other ladies. Here are two pics she sent, the first is how I would like my hair (which she would also like apparently) or the other which is obviously more done up than the first. I know this is petty, its just been a bad day with my FSIL....

Oops, sorry. I don't know how I read that wrong. I would still ask for it not to look the same! My friend had extensions put in for her wedding and her hair took an hour to style. I think it depends on what type of extensions. Clip in ones are easier and take less time.

It sounds like she's just TRYING to piss you off at this point, lol. Seriously? Who does this? It should be common sense that you can't copy the freaking bride. She could wear 5000 hair extensions and put sparklers in her hair for all it matters though, all eyes will be fawning over you, so don't worry.

Yeah I just need to suck it up and suggest something else.

@Megan- hahah sparklers. She did send one with a bunch of beautiful baby's breath throughout the back Smiley smile
