If anyone saw my last bridesmaids dress post, you know that it didn't go well having my girls try on a dress I loved from Azazie. It ended up looking terrible on them so I was planning on letting my girls pick their own style. My fiance is dead set against this idea. He is very traditional and wants everything to look cohesive. I tried telling them the dresses would be the same color, length and fabric, but he still shot the idea down. I think he thinks this is a decision he can make because 1. it's both of our wedding and 2. the groomswoman would be wearing the same thing as the bridesmaids so he feels he gets to decide what his side should wear. I don't want to anger my groom, but I also don't want continue trying to find one dress that they all love and are comfortable in. Any advice?

Has he seen photos from weddings where the BM's wore different dresses? My BM's wore the dress of their choice and it looked great. I think maybe if he saw multiple examples it would be easier for him to envision?

He needs to understand that now all women have the same body type and feel comfortable in the same style. Also, if they are in the same color and fabric, the dress style really isn't that noticeable. Good luck with this!

I would point out to him that that will actually make the whole thing look even less cohesive if all of wedding party on one side are all in the exact same dress and then on the of her side everyone EXCEPT one person is all in the exact same suit. Personally I think that would look much less cohesive and wouldn’t flow as well as having all of the women choose a different style dress (same color, fabric, length). The one woman on the side with all of the men in the suits will look much more like a decision you made and not a mistake that she is standing on the wrong side.

Unless your bridal party is the same height, weight, proportions, eye color, hair color, hair length, hair texture, etc....they are never going to look exactly the same. They are people with their own comfort levels and styles and personality. They are not mannequins that just sit in the background being pretty. These are supposed to be your closest friends and family and being unwilling to even explore other attire options to make sure they are happy and comfortable is really telling how he feels about the other people in your bridal party and is coming off as quite the "Groomzilla".
