Bridesmaids Asks!!

Liz, on February 28, 2018 at 5:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 33

I am planning on asking 8 of my girlfriends to stand up with me on my big day! (yikes) Not only do I have NO CLUE who my maid of honor is going to be, but I am stuck on what gifts I should use to ask them to be my bridesmaids. Little things add up quick, especially with how many women I am planning on being bridesmaids. What were some of the gifts you used to ask your bridal party?

You have time to ask them. If your not sure then don't make any decisions quickly. Many people here ask around 6-8 months before. I asked around 10. They also don't need a large gift. You can give them a card with a sweet note. I only have 4 in my bridal party and i gave them a box with a mini champagne bottle, card, ring pop, and compact mirror. It will save a lot of money for you with 8 people. Take your time and consider your relationships with them all before you ask. Maybe there is something small they will enjoy. I also asked them all individually prior to giving them the gift.

ETA: I don't mean to sound hypocritical with a May 2019 date i just postponed my wedding, well i think im postponing it lol

I am just going to call mine. I thought it might make them feel obligated to say yes if I made a big deal out of it. I plan on giving them nice gifts at the wedding. If you do a gift I would just do a bottle of wine, I wouldn't want any tchotchkes or anything with "bridesmaid" on it.

Bottle of wine is a good go-to. If you have more time on your hands, one of my friends did a collage of us with a poem in the middle asking me. It’s one of my favorite gifts I’ve ever received.

And if if no one jumps out as a MOH, just don’t have one. I have four girls I consider my best friends, so I’m just having BMs and no MOH.

    I just asked.

I have heard of sending a bouquet of flowers to each BM and I wish I had thought of that because I think it's such a classy move.

If you are concerned about the cost of having 8 bridesmaids ( you said Little things add up quick, ), I suggest you reconsider "bridesmaid proposal"gifts. They are completely unnecessary. Meet with each one individually and ask them. If you like, you could write your heartfelt thoughts about your friendship in a card.

Save your money for gifts to thank all these women before the wedding.

In regards to whom should be your MOH, if you have a sibling/relative in your bridal party, I would ask that person to fill the MOH shoes... if not, then I would say whoever you've been close friends with the longest.

For asking them, I think a "proposal" box is fun! That's what I did for my girls. I got cute boxes (frosted plastic bins) from Target, filled them with fun colored tissue paper and string confetti so you couldn't see through to the gifts. In the box I included stemless champagne flutes (each had the girls name as well as title, "bridesmaid" or "maid of honor", engraved on the glass), small bottles of champagne, lavender candles, bridal party hair-ties, and a nice custom card with hand-written sentiment asking them to be my bridesmaid. My MOH had the same box, but I added a nice bracelet into hers for a little something extra special.

Other than the bottles of champagne and boxes/tissue paper/confetti, I purchased everything on Etsy. I spent about $45 on each box, which I felt was reasonable since I'll be purchasing more items for them as the wedding goes on (robes/bridal party shirts/hair/makeup, etc.).

I know some people think the "proposal" boxes are cheesy, but I thought it was a fun idea, and since my BP is spread out all over the country, I wanted a special way to ask each of them without having to do it over the phone, so sending this box and card to each of them was what I felt to be the most thoughtful option and each of them absolutely loved it and was so excited! Smiley smile

I asked my bridesmaids around Christmas time so I bought for them during Black Friday. I got them things I thought they would use, monogram cups and monogram t-shirts with their title on the back. I spent about 10 dollars for each girl.

You can just ask, but lurk on here a little while before you do. Please. It's too early and 8 is a BIG bridal party. Search some posts about "Bridemaid Drama" and most of them stem from asking too early or asking too many. 6-8 months will be plenty of time for them to get their dresses.

It's easy to be excited and want to include everyone, but you might want to run through the costs of thank you gifts, HMUA (if you are requiring it you have to pay), rehearsal dinner, and their bouquets. Think about your vision for seating at the reception, if you are planning to have also 8 GM, plus 16 SO's sit together with you, that's just not going to work.

I got a shot glass set with 4 or 5 “bridesmaid” and “groomsman”, plus a “bride” “groom” etc. for like $10. Then I put glitter on the bridesmaid’s. Plus nail polish in my wedding colors and mini bottles of alcohol.

It looks like you have plenty of time before you ask dont rush that choice so there are no issues after all are asked. I asked each of my girls by giving them the jewelry to wear day of with a card that said can't tie the knot without u will you stand with me on my wedding day.

You do not have to have a MOH or the other option is you can have multiple is you want to.

Anything that is required for the day is not considered to be a gift, so any attire you require, etc.

Most people on here will tell you to shop for them like it is their birthday, so whatever they like to do (movie tickets) or whatever they want.

I got cheap little boxes from Dollar tree! They were very pretty rose gold with a bow on top. Then put a ring pop in it and and prrinted out a paper saying “He popped the question now it’s my turn... will you be my bridesmaid?” And put it on the inside when you open the box! Super cute and cheap!

I had 14 to ask... It almost became overwhelming. Then I took a breath and realized I could do the invite a little more simple and save up to do something big for their gift on that day (I'm still figuring it out). But here is what I made for each of my 12 bridesmaids, Matron of Honor, and Maid of Honor. Made with love (a printer, cardstock, paint pens, and glue) and they all accepted and liked it. I wish you good luck! Think: "Buy in bulk!"

I have 6. I bought some gold toned bracelets that were in a little knot. I got them on amazon for $8 for 4. I then found some labels to put around bottles of champagne (labels were cheap as well and I found those on amazon and champagne was reasonably priced got that at Trader Joe’s) that said “will you be my bridesmaid” ”moh?”. I put the bracelet around the top with a little note I wrote on the computer that said “will you please help me tie the knot?” For the moh I actually got her other random nice gifts (like a coozie that said will you be my bridesmaid (which I got at this place called Francesca’s.” I also made her a nice proposal card with stuff I got at hobby lobby (made it super cheesy) lol. For two bridesmaids I have that I know don’t like champagne I got them the coozies that asked will you be my bridesmaid, with the tie the knot note and the bracelet. Hope this helps. Remember it doesn’t have to be expensive, just has to come from the heart.

I would wait until at least a year out to ask if you are unsure - take some time to think about it!

Also, I think a card would suffice - I ordered cute ones from Etsy. I also ended up buying boxes from the $1 store and giving them hair ties, ring pops, knot rings and champagne gummy bears. Not too extravagant but I could have saved that money for their gift - oh well!

I put together bridesmaid boxes for each of them. They got a T-shirt and wine glass that said bride tribe, a mini bottle of champagne and the dvd brides maid. I gave mine to them at breakfast. As I invited them all to come dress shopping with me. For my attendants I gave them a shirt and big bottle of wine with a card attached
