Bridesmaid wearing sneakers with her dress

STB Mrs Van Blargan, on September 1, 2010 at 6:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Well, my sister is going to be my bridesmaid and I want her to get shoes that she wouldnt mind wearing again. I was hoping that she would get flats, like my other sister (bridesmaid), but she said that she would wear them only for the wedding and I think thats a big waste of money.. If we were the same shoe size, I would wear them afterward but she is a size 9 and Im a size 8. What do you think I should do?? Two people told me that it wouldnt look good black sneakers with a lemongrass (short, to the knee) dress.

What do you think I should do??? I thought it would be fine to wear sneakers with her dress (I wear sneaker with my dresses, on a daily basis.) But, I dont want it to look weird or un-wedding-ish??? The guys are all wearing black sneakers.

It's your wedding, if your comfortable with it, why not? I personally wouldn't do it, but go for it. Smiley laugh

My sister (one who is wearing flats), said it would look tacky and really stupid. I thinking Im starting to agree with her.

@ Angel, I agree. Flats are cheap anyways, you can get some simple black ones at Wal-Mart for like $10. After all, she's only wearing them once right?

I personally would not do that, it would be a total contradiction to the formality of the wedding. Can she get a pair of cheap flats from payless or target instead?

I agree. why sneakers ? it is your day and you can make her wear what you want to !!! even simple flip flops would be better !!!

Ya no go on the sneakers..if she goes with flip flops like many above suggested, you can even get those for a few bucks!

Look into those sketchers (or some similar brand) that are like mary jane's/sneakers. I have a pair that are brown and they are casual yet dressy enough for skirts. Maybe it is a good compromise?

Personally, I get the whole idea of what you are saying from both sides. But it's a wedding, there is some kind of formality involved regardless.

Oh, there are also some shoes that are the cross-between ones I mentioned earlier that will have black patent on them. Check this out: http://www.shoebuy.com/girls-patent-leather-shoes.htm

    Good luck!

BTW, you cannot make everyone happy. It's your day and you have final say. Do as much as you can to help make your BM comfortable, but don't stress out about it. They should be helping you out, too! Sometimes that means wearing an outfit one time. Smiley winking

Why not ask her to wear something more"wedding-ish" for the ceremony and photos, then tell your BMs to feel free to change for the reception? I am sure she can find something that won't break the bank for you wedding.

Oh no, I'd go off on her.

    1. Those are really cute.

    2. This is your wedding day, not hers.

    3. THIS IS YOUR WEDDING DAY, NOT HERS.

I'd tell her to get over herself for one day for you, I mean, I'd beat the crap out of my sister if she caused this much trouble.

For $13 she can suck it up and by them. i can understand where your sister is coming from but its not like the shoes you are looking at are $50.
