Bridesmaid Robe Alternatives and thoughts on FLOWER crowns?!

Ashley, on July 29, 2017 at 11:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 35

So I know bridesmaid robes and flower crowns are ALL the rage right now, which makes me hesitant to give in to the trend. I love the idea of robes, and giving something my girls can get ready in the morning of the wedding. Any thoughts on robes alternatives? I'm not a huge fan of the plaid button downs, or the bridesmaid shirts to get ready in (pulling over the head with makeup and hair done, just a no for me). My friend did really pretty baby down night gowns, and they were gorgeous but with half of my girlfriends being very blessed in the chest, they might not be comfortable in a very low cut baby down night gown type of thing.

Also any thoughts on floral crowns? I think they add so much to the girls hair but I don't want to look back in 5 years and say "wow were we at a wedding or at Coachella fest?!". Maybe it's just me but I'm worried the flower crowns could date the photos VERY quickly? I really like the simple ones though! Thanks everyone Smiley smile

Way too soon to plan for any of this. Wait until 3 months out and see what's trending and what you're feeling then.

I agree it's too early, but a nice set of pajamas is always welcome. I got my girls all one color tank top and then PJ pants that matched their styles.

Robes are nice. If you get them monogrammed that would make for a nice gift as well.

I like the pj ideas, more practical than robes. Not a fan of flower crowns tbh and would hate if I had to wear one.

As a previously well endowed lady (reduction), I neeeeever used any PJs people bought me. They just didn't fit. Maybe consider a piece of jewelry, socks, etc?

I'm thinking of doing pjs. They have a lot of different kinds and it's something they could (hopefully) use again. You can do something simple like leggings and something that buttons up (they have ones that aren't plaid) if you're concerned about hair.

You could do a white (or any color) button down instead of plaid.

What will they actually wear again?

I've been seeing flower crowns for 10 years...I like them IF they go with the rest of the apparel.

I think you have to consider the type of crowd you have in regards to the robes. I would rather have a tank and pj pants myself, and would use those after. I would probably never wear the robe again.

I'm indifferent to flower crowns, but I agree on waiting awhile Smiley smile

I am giving my girls pjs. Robes are not really their type of thing. And I know the pjs will get used again.

I'd be pissed and hold a grudge for quite a while if I was forced to wear a flower crown.

As for getting ready, you can do literally any kind of button down, solid color, chambray, striped, etc. it doesn't have to be plaid flannel

What about regular Oxford shirts in a color they would wear again? The Polo Factory Stores always have them on sale if you have one near you!

Flower crowns are pretty. Would you consider a smaller one so it doesn't seem as trendy?

I know that both of these things are "in", but what do YOU want? Even though they seem really popular, you have to thing about what some PPs said, they have been around for a while so you don't need to feel like you're just following the trend. I say go for both if you like them!

Personally, I LOVE everything flowers. So it's important to me to have fresh flowers and floral print robes on my wedding day. I wish we could do flower crowns, too, but they just wouldn't go well with my BM dresses. If they go with your feel, do it!

PS - there's nothing wrong with thinking about robes and flower crowns 9 months before the day. I wouldn't suggest ordering them until closer, but there's nothing wrong with brainstorming.

ETA - talk to your girls about if they would feel comfortable wearing a flower crown. You don't need unhappy BMs holding grudges over some head flowers.

I bought embroidered men's button downs for the girls that they will probably wear with leggings. Not plaid and the shirt is insanely soft and comfortable.

As for flower crowns, in my opinion they are overdone for the bride. My FGs will wear them though.

Just ask them what they like or what's cute next time you see them. Are you doing getting ready pictures? I'm not and so I don't see the point of buying monogrammed shirts or specific robes that don't really serve a purpose after the wedding. I'd rather put that money towards better gifts for them.

IMO, flower crowns are always in for young flower girls and brides of hipster style weddings; any other style/age seems out if place. BM flower crowbs...no.

Robes : man they make such cute getting ready pictures!!!!!! I just shot bridal prep this weekend and the ladies were all in their robes. They loved them and the images are so cute.

I'm looking at this totally one sided.

My wedding is at a camp and definitely what most would consider boho so we are doing very simple (mostly just greenery) "flower crowns" but it fits all of the girls I plan to ask to be in my bridal party. As for getting ready, my best friend really wants me to do robes but I know the last wedding I was in, I felt so uncomfortable getting ready with someone's grandmother while in a silk robe and nothing else. Also, I felt really awkward during getting ready pictures because I constantly felt like my robe was slipping. My current plan is to get everyone a button down. Much more comfortable and it's something I know they will all love since that's their style. I'm not counting it as a gift though since it's for my wedding. Also, I will probably have my man of honor with us and although I'm sure he would wear a silk robe for me, I would never make him lol
