Bridesmaid Proposals...

I hope I don't stick out like a sore thumb, but does anyone else think that bridesmaid proposals are a little cliche and obnoxious? I bought mine all cards from etsy and that's how I am asking them. Nothing extravagant. I may take each out for lunch and give it to them then. or just give it to them....

Yeah, BM proposals are too much. Just call them or ask in person. Also, don't wait until next April to ask them. That's too late and gives them only six months to prepare and buy a dress. Ask them in January.

I think it's a little odd. I just asked them in person.

I wrote a card and made a photo magnet of the two of us. I gave in person where could and mailed others. I thought it was nice and they all still comment about loving the magnets.

Do you. I'm sentimental and my friends know I'm an amateur photog so it made sense and was super easy to make.

I just asked in person. For some of them, I gave them a paper flower but it wasn't anything crazy. Smiley smile

I made alittle frame asking them to be bridesmaids, that was it. I didn't even know about these proposal things till I came here.

I put together a box for my sister's. I say if the wedding party is smaller why not. Can get pricey if you have big party but I only have 2. They mean a lot to me.

I'm just getting them a card. I think it's cute in a way but sometimes it's just over the top and $$$$

This is silly. I hope this phase dies soon.

Personally, I think it's another great example of the bloat my industry encourages. There is no minute of the process, from the STD's to the trash the dress sessions that hasn't become embellished to the point that everyone is crazy. Overwhelmed?

Of course. And most of it is unnecessary.

    Just call.

I planned on doing this. I even made boxes. Then I got overwhelmed with anxiety and just texted them all. The thought of presenting them with a box and watching them open it made me sick with anxiety to even think about. The whole asking bridesmaids is what I dreaded most about the wedding from the get go. Hopefully someone out there can relate.

I only have 3 BM's, one of them my twin sister. So I had special cookies made to ask them. Was super fun and made very cute pictures! I only did this since I know them very well and no awkwardness would occur.

I'm never "in the know " when it comes to these things so I did not propose. And I'm glad because it's just not me.

What I am doing is giving them a small thank you gift before the festivities began just to show appreciation for stepping up and helping.

The wedding industry and pinterest has made so many things seem necessary. It's a great way to get people to spend their money.

I made some "bridesmaid" matching tshirts for all of them with my color theme ( i know that kinda obnox but i thought i was nice because the last wedding i was a brides maid in we were scrambling to find matching tshirts last minute) with a famed picture of me and the girl with a handmade personal note. i threw some candies and a lotion from bed bath and beyond

I made cute boxes for my girls

That had handmade soaps and mini wine bottles and a glass with their names on it and little lotions and things

    And they loved it

I made my girls a gift box and took them out to brunch. We really enjoyed our time out and they all got to know each other. It may be over the top to some but it was something I really wanted to do and my bridesmaids truly appreciated it.

It's pretty early to be asking with your wedding 16 months away.

@chelsea, I can totally relate. I was just assuming the worst for whatever reason. Maybe because I'm pretty independent and don't have a bunch of girlfriends like it seems a lot of people do. But I asked my moh on Friday and my BM yesterday and it was way easier than I thought. And I know everyone is going to snap at me for already choosing the bridal party so early, but it's my sister and my oldest friend who has already been very much involved in the planning. Say what you will, but I'm 100% confident in my decision.

I don't understand the whole over the top bridesmaids proposal kit. to me it just looks like youre giving your BM the gifts you would give them at the rehearsal dinner/wedding morning but like a year in advanced. But my mom and I handmade some cards to give them, so that they have a little keepsake and I'm going to buy everyone nail polish in my wedding colors for them to use for the big day and maybe make some cookies lol. Its all very low key and I just want to do something small and special to make them feel appreciated. But I am definitely asking them in private so no one feels weird if they have to say no thank you lol
