Bridesmaid Dropped Out

Kristina, on June 10, 2020 at 6:33 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 13
One of my bridesmaids has dropped out of the wedding with 4 months to go. I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else and how have you handled it. Did you ask someone else to fill in? Is it awkward to do so?

One of my bridesmaids dropped out about three months prior. She was one of my coworkers and I was unfortunately fired and she felt uncomfortable being in my wedding after that. I had no intentions of replacing her, but my sister-in-law kept hinting at wanting to be in my wedding so I felt like if I didn't ask her she would have been really upset which would have made it awkward because my brother (her husband) was in our wedding. I also felt bad because I was in her wedding so I decided to include her. I would say that it is generally not a good idea to replace someone.

My now ex bff was supposed to get ordained and marry us. She acted all excited when we asked her if she would marry us. Unfortunately she never acted excited after that. She never brought up the wedding, never took initiative to get ordained online which is super easy, never started working on her script. So 2 months before our wedding I fired her. This was right before covid forced us to postpone our May 2nd wedding. Now we’re getting married on August 29th and hired a professional. My point is that sometimes unfortunately a wedding will make you make uncomfortable decisions and show you which of your friends come through for you.

Oh and not to mention she never RSVPd to our wedding by the deadline and that was what made me say enough is enough

No way. I wouldn’t replace her. You selected the ladies that you wanted to stand next to you. It would be odd to just grab someone up as a “placeholder“. Your BM’s absence won’t negatively affect anything.

I think it depends on if there's someone you recently feel you wanted as a BM, but didn't ask. I wouldn't ask just to fill the spot, though. It also depends on if you can get a dress in time.

Well, I have a feeling that my friend may drop out. I plan on finding someone else at that point. Probably ask my sister-in-law. As soon as I got engaged and Told her I had big news, she also told me oh Em Gee I have big news to tell you too LOL.She got a job offering on the other side of the country. She said that she’d still be in my wedding in for me to not worry about it, but she’s in the wedding business LOL my wedding is in June2021. I have a feeling she will eventually tell me that she can’t do it which is totally understandable because it’s a new job and it’s wedding season so it’s no big deal but I would still replace her only because I want there to be an even number of guys and girls

I think if it’s a few months before it’s rude. You weren’t good enough before but you are now? But it depends on when you’re getting married, how far along, etc.
