Bridesmaid Dresses: Trying to think outside of the box....

M&M, on March 26, 2010 at 8:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Are there any brides out there who are NOT using a typical "bridesmaid dress" for their BM's? Someone brought this blog/photo shoot to my attention (http://greenweddingshoes.blogspot.com/2010/03/real-wedding-beth-scotts-diy-vintage.html) and I absolutely love the idea of doing a more simple dress that the girls could wear again vs. a more traditional, formal BM gown......our wedding is not very "formal" and is in a garden setting so this works for us. So, I'm just curious to see if there are any other ladies out there doing something different?

I started with this idea but unfortunately it didn't work out for me! I had picked out 5 different black dresses..all chiffon..and was letting my bms' pick from that selection so that since they were spending the money on it they could wear it again (They were VERY modern and nonformal dresses)...I have 6 bms and one sent me a different list of dresses she wanted, one asked me if she could wear one of 2 black dresses she already had at home (Def NOT chiffon..not wedding attire unless you're a guest) and then a few more ordeals happened SO I went a little diva and changed to just one dress. I tried though! Good luck to you and I hope your bms are less diva then mine! haha

HA HA! Yikes! I hope they won't be that bad! I can't help but laugh though, because that would be just my luck as well! You'd think they would want to do it too.....atleast I think it would save them alot of money in the end (compared to what else we were looking at!)

Exactly my thought! Since we have 3 couples in our bridal party! I hope it doesn't turn out that way for you too :-)

Our wedding will be an outdoor and casual. I am having my MOH pick out a daytime summery dress from any store. She picked one out that I am going to go see today to give her the OK.

Ours is a garden wedding in the spring......and our main color is a dark purple but I'm throwing in some bright green accents....NO idea where to even begin, but hoping to find something cute!

Summer dresses in June sound perfect!

I'm going the whole pick your own little black dress route. My BMs are all very different and I want them all to be comfortable, plus I don't want them to have to spend a ton of money...this way they chose how much they spend, and if they can't wear the dress again it's their own fault. Plus two of my ladies will have their kids in the wedding, so this way they can pick dresses they are comfy chasing after their little ones in. I trust all my ladies to pick something that will look awesome on them. Plus, it's one less thing I have to worry about and I'm all for less stress for me!

These are the dresses my girls are getting: http://www.amazon.com/Strapless-Satin-Formal-Bridesmaid-Holiday/dp/B0006VN9EW/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header

In the color royal. All of them said they could wear them again! I was going to go the little black dress route but I'm getting married at the end of June outside and I don't want them to be all hot and sweaty while being out there.

My MOH (don't have bridesmaids) got her dress from Unique Vintage. I told her the colors, asked her to keep the dress in a similar style to mine (meaning not too blingy, no train), and to choose something that she will wear again.

She would have bought a traditional dress if I had asked her to, but she's happy having spent money on something that she will definitely wear again. And honestly, if she doesn't want this dress, I'd be willing to buy it off of her. I like it too!
