Bridesmaid dresses same or mixed?

I’ve been trying to decide for months going back and forth if my bridesmaids will wear the same style dress or let them choose their own. I want them in the same color, length and material either way. Originally, I envisioned my wedding traditional with all in the same dress but they are sizes 2-20 so one dress does not look good on all of them and I had them try on at least 16 styles. I did like the MOH dress being different and I think that’s what she wants because she stands out and having the other bridesmaids be in the same dress but they all have different bodies and styles. So do I let them pick their own style and will it look right in photos? Or pick one that they have to all wear so my MOH stands out? I’ve been in weddings so I know the feeling but I don’t want to make someone wear something they don’t feel comfortable in or like but then again it’s my wedding and the dresses I’ve picked are not crazy styles. Please help!

That is my inspo pic! I just picked a color from the website Azazie and let them pick the style as long as it was floor length! Their dresses are arriving now and are so beautiful. Or look into infinity top bridesmaids dresses, checkout Etsy!

I let them choose their style, but I told them color and length. If you want your MOH to stand out, you could have her wear a different color-that’s what I’m doing.

Yeah It definitely can be a challenge! Good luck! I'm sure no matter what dress you and your girls decide on, your wedding will be beautiful!

I love the idea about going out with the main girl squad and picking out their dresses. I will not have a bridal party myself but if I did I would also have them choose colors that work well together.

I think your best bet is to pick out an assortment of dresses that you like (all same color and fabric), add them to your Azazie showroom in your account, and then let your bridesmaids choose among themselves from your pre-approved selections. Depending on how many bridesmaids you have, you can choose enough so that no two are in the same dress, or specify that they each should choose a different one. This way your bridesmaids have some control over what looks good on their body types, but you also have control in that they can't go off and choose some crazy-looking or revealing style.

Yes! I agree. This is probably the best way with how different their styles and body types are.

I just love the look of the same color, fabric, length but each lady gets to choose her own style. Looking back at old wedding pics, it seems so weird to make every bridesmaid look like a carbon copy with the same dress & hairstyle! These days, a bridal party is such a beautiful eclectic mix.

Yeah it is kinda funny how everyone looked the same. All clones of each other lol. I do like the same color and all that so if it’s just the different styles I can work with that. I think I’ll let them choose their style and have them pick an updo since it will be hot.

Team different styles all the way! I pulled a showroom together on Azazie, all same fabric, length, and "flowiness" if that makes sense. But they can pick a neck and waistline that suits them best. I think it's unfair especially if you have a big group to ask everyone to wear the exact same thing, but that is my personal opinion!

You could do that or you could have her wear a belt or you could have her wear a special hair clip or have her bouquet be slightly different - there are all kinds of things you can do to make her stand out. To be fair, she doesn't really *need* to stand out - she'll be standing next to you at the altar.

This is exactly what I did (not using Azazie, but a very similar service). I was able to control exactly what went into the showroom and this ensured that all of the dresses they had to choose from were the same fabric, length, silhouette, and flowiness. I knew I couldn't have all of them in the same dress because my MOH was quite flat-chested while one of others needed a style that accommodated a supportive bra, another bridesmaid was 4 months pregnant, etc. It worked out really well and even though each girl had a *slightly* different dress that accommodated her body type, the look in the end was incredibly cohesive, and the differences in the dresses were very subtle! To the OP, I would highly recommend this approach (that Kelsey has taken also). Believe me, your bridesmaids will thank you for it. Best of luck!
