Bridesmaid Dresses- different colors?

Kelly, on March 8, 2011 at 10:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

So I'm throwing around the idea of having my bridesmaid dresses in different colors, but around the same color family- keeping in purples, pinks etc. Has anyone done this/doing this, or have seen it at another wedding? Does it visually work???

I don't see why it wouldn't work .... I goggled some sample pics for you so you can maybe get a better idea - but I think it is totally doable Smiley smile

I think it will work! The pics His Angel posted are good examples. I've also seen where all the BMs wear a black dress and they all have different color sashes and shoes. That's cute too!

    Thanks Jennifer! I have 6 BM's, so I think I will do either 2 or 3 colors!

All 6 of my BM's are wearing the same dress in different colors. Here's the dress and the colors ..Lapis, Clover, Jade, Watermelon, Horizon and Latte.

My colors are chocolate, gold and ivory. Clearly I am wearing ivory. My BMs are very different complexions. If I put the light skin one in gold or the dark skin one in chocolate they would look like they were standing up there nekkid! So they have to wear different colors by default! They can determine if they want to wear the same dress but they have to be complimentary.

Maybe you can get sample swatches that they need to match if you want just 2 shades. To match colors I grabbed a TON of those paint sample cards and took them with and matched the paint card to the dress so I could always carry the color with me.

I think different purples will look very nice.

@ Lacy- love the BM dress!

@EDubbsGirl- fantastic colors- I would have went with that scheme if I were doing a fall wedding Smiley smile Very classic

I think it works very well together! I have seen it done quite a few different ways! Never looks bad! I am doing all the girls in the same except my MOH, she is going to be in the other color, to make her stand out just a bit, but they are all wearing the same dress.

I am going ultra small and only have a MOH and no BM's. But my color scheme is going to be monochromatic where I use different shades of purple. I figured that purple would be so hard to match to other shades, so that way, I can have my invitations in one shade, my MOH dress in one, my flowers in another and I am still in my color scheme!

I think the dresses in different shades of a color would look awesome!

Thanks @Didi! You make a great point- this gives me some room to play with color. It would be impossible to try and match everything- this will be a lot more fun Smiley smile

I will be having 5 bm and was thinking about having them in fall colors; red, orange, yellow, green, and brown. they all have different body shapes, not sure if i should let them pick out their dress in the color i give them or try to get a dress they all look good in?

I had somewhat asked my BM's the same thing- sounds like they would appreciate being able to chose the color and style (within the options I select Smiley smile
