Bridesmaid dress color help

Jami, on June 30, 2020 at 5:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
I’m hoping I can help with this from other people because surprisingly Pinterest is not much help. Our theme is superhero (we’re both big nerds) so our color palette was navy and burgundy (a lot of superheroes have red and blue as their main colors, specifically SpiderMan who we both love) with green, silver and blush as accents. Our original wedding date (we chose to postpone bc of COVID as my father, mother and his grandparents are in the highest risk category) was this November. So that’s why I went dark on the red and blue. However we’re looking at April or May now and I am aware I could keep the colors regardless of season but I just don’t like the idea of dark colors in spring (were in Fl so basically summer) at an outside wedding. So I want to lighten up the red and blue in our colors and drop the accents. Think shades of red and blue. My FH’s fave color is blue so he and his groomsmen will be in blue - but I’m not sure I want to dictate the shade of blue just yet. I want my bridesmaids to be in red (and shorten the dress) but I haven’t seen any pics, especially ones with bridesmaids of different skin tones. 3 of my bridesmaids are white and my other two bridesmaids are Black. Can bright red be pulled off? How would I pair it to the groomsmen? Heck how would I do bouquets? This postponement has thrown everything out of whack. Stupid COVID. Thanks for your opinions!

I don't see why the red and blue wouldn't work regardless of the time of year. Take a look at offbeatbride.com for ideas.

I think red is beautiful on all skin tones! I am having a red white and blue themed wedding in September of this year and the guys will be in royal blue and the girls will be in knee length bright red dresses.

Red is a nice color and i think it would be fine bright across many skin tones.

I think that your original colors are great and mean something to you guys. I think that they are both good colors for any skin tone and you shouldn’t have to change them based off season. Go with your original colors. You can always do the same color for all the girls or even do two in red and two in blue if you want to mix it up a bit. The groomsmen don’t have to match either they just need to compliment each other.

Colors don’t have to match the season but to me the brighter red and blue are more superhero to me. I think the red will look good on all skin tones so I wouldn’t worry about that.

I think your original colors would still go great regardless of the month. Yet I also think bright/true red would also look great on all of your ladies. I think navy would still go great with that, or Superman blue would work great too. Keep us posted on this theme. I’d love to see centerpieces and other decorations.

As for flowers, do you have a particular flower you were thinking of? Well that just sent me to google for superhero weddings. Interesting look at how others have tackled it. I will say I like the photos of the groom and/or groomsmen revealing superhero shirts under their dress shirt. I’m trying to convince my FH that it’d be appropriately dorky for him to wear a Superman shirt under his dress shirt.

So, I pulled up Spider-Man and Mary Jane wedding and came across this image from the comics. No attendees, but Peter is in a blue suit which goes well with MJ’s solitary rose. Just a thought since you mentioned y’all are particularly fond of Spider-Man.

I’m not emotionally attached to the original colors. The theme means something to me obviously but I just don’t want dark colors in spring/summer on the bridal party. I don’t mind using the darker ones in like flowers or whatever though!

I don’t have pictures but I can tell you what I have planned for the centerpieces! A stack of some comic books with a small flower arrangement ( I’m thinking of cobalt blue glass jars to put the flowers in) as well as the table number which is a watercolor print of different superheroes along with the corresponding superhero funky pop. I decided to go minimal on a lot of stuff bc planning all this just stresses me out. Little detail planning is not my forte. Our Mr and Mrs letters for the sweetheart table are going to be those cardboard letters with comics modge podged to the front.
I’m not particular on the flower type. My flowers are from an Etsy seller, they’re fake, so it’s more the color ideas for them.
Yes I’ve seen so many ways people have done it and none really appealed to me. I like the shirt idea! I don’t think my FH is going to do that. He’s wanting to do cuff links and socks that are superhero. Oh wow that pic lol

You are right. Bright red and blue is more Spider-Man/superhero than the dark colors. I know for other people the season and colors don’t have to match but for me I just can’t get off that. I definitely don’t mind pulling the darker colors into say flowers or what not, it’s just on my bridal party where it’s front and center I’d rather them be the bright red. It’s good to know others here have said it can look good on a range of skin tones. I want my bridesmaids to look good bc it makes me look good!

If you don't mind DIY, fiftyflowers.com has fresh flower options in blue. Also, Etsy.com has silk bouquets if you prefer that instead.

Those centerpieces sound really cool. And I'd love to see those sweetheart letters when you've put it together. I seriously hear you about going minimal. I personally think a lot of brides go overboard on details that no one else notices, and I think many spend so much on a wedding rather than investing in the future of their marriage and life together. I've tried to keep my budget as small as possible, because yes it's a life-changing event, but it doesn't need to put us in debt either.

Every wedding I’ve been to I never remember the centerpieces or stuff like that. Food, music and alcohol is what I remembered most. I think the same as you, so I don’t give them much thought, but if those little details matter to others then to each their own. Same with the overall wedding. I did do my best to keep it all under 20K though.

Thank you! You're welcome! They are very fun to work with! I probably spent 18 hours on them lol, because I dyed them myself too. Post some photos when you get your flowers! I love sola wood flowers!

I’m not one for DIY very much so that’s why I just said ah heck I’ll pay someone to do this but I KNEW I wanted fake flowers. They were much cheaper and I’ll have my bouquet forever so win-win. Smiley smile
We just confirmed our new date as 4/30 so it might be a while before I have pics to post lol
