Hey all!
I’ve had one of my friends drop out of my wedding. Luckily, my wedding isn’t until the summer but how did you deal with it? I don’t know what emotions I should be feeling? How did you handle the drama and are you still friends?

Ive really been struggling. She doesn’t want to be a part of my wedding because of my budget makes her uncomfortable and she’s also getting married a month after me. She also kicked me out of her wedding as a bridesmaid as well. She also thinks that the title bridesmaid doesn’t fit her because she felt she wasn’t supportive of me whilst wedding dress shopping because of what I wanted to spend on my dress. She is also twisting the story around saying I didn’t want her to be in my wedding, which is a lie. I considered her as basically a second maid of honor

Honestly it sounds like you’re better off. She sounds like drama and you don’t need that on top of all the regular wedding planning stressing. Take it as a blessing! I know that’s easier said than done and maybe she was a good friend in the past but I feel like she’s shaking her true colors because this is an important event in your life and a real friend would be there and be supportive not cause you stress and make things more difficult. I would just focus on your other girls and lean on them!

Okay. Caught up with your other responses. Soo just really pay attention to the second half. It sounds like she wants to compete and maybe seeing your dress and how much it costs, made her feel like your wedding will be better. And shes upset about that and taking it out on you, when it's really her insecurities. I'm sorry.

I did ask everyone individually privately to see if that was okay and she said it was fine. I considered everyone’s opinions when it came to price. I wanted to spend less than that but that was the cheapest I could find for good quality and that everyone agreed upon besides her. She was the only one who hated it becUse it was too hard to get on.

Thanks! At this point idk if I want to remain friends with someone who’s not there for me on an important day.

Got it! That makes total sense. I wouldn't want to remain friends with the person either. Just focus on your wedding and everyone else that has been there for you!

Did you ask your bridesmaids what their budget was before you told them they had to buy a $200 dress? It's also incredibly rude to make your bridesmaids pay for their hair and makeup. If you're requiring them to have it done professionally, it's your responsibility to pay for it. Otherwise they should have the option of doing it themselves. Honestly, I can't say I blame your friend for backing out. I wouldn't pay $350+ to be in someone else's wedding the month before mine either, especially if they weren't considerate enough to ask my budget. I do think that it's a little odd that she kicked you out of her wedding party, perhaps she thought it was the right thing to do, considering she backed out of yours.

I did. I asked them All privately too and they all said 200 was fine. I’m not forcing anyone of my girls to get the hair and make up done I was just saying I’ll give them that option if they want it or they can do it theirselves. She mostly backed out because we weren’t getting along at work since we work together too. She also felt like she wasn’t supporting me because she was overwhelmed by my budget. I also got engaged and started my planning almost a year ago and she just got engaged this summer. She well knew my date before she picked hers. She’s upset about my OVERALL budget for my wedding. She had no problem paying the 200 and the losing out on it for backing out. She also wasted another 200 on her save the dates. So her spending 200 for the bridesmaid dress was no big deal

So you need to read the rest of her comments before expressing your opinion. This woman is only asking her to pay for her dress and if she wants to get makeup and hair professionally done, but doesn’t have to. Her friend was uncomfortable with her budget for her WHOLE wedding.

Sounds like she could’ve been Jealous of how much bigger your budget for your wedding was than hers. That’s probably why she thinks you’re competing. I say kept your head high and do your thing girl!

I was typing my first response when she was answering the previous comments. So I did not see the comments answering my first question. Then posted this literally right after my original comment, when I refreshed the page. It's pretty ironic that you call me out on something and do the same thing by not reading my following comments.

Yikes. You're mixing bridal party, friends, and she's your boss. It's probably better to keep things separate!!

Before, I didn’t know I was supposed to pay for their hair and makeup I don’t care what their hair and make up look like they’re can do it themselves. I would give them that option. I’m not asking my girls to pay a buttload of money. Basically all I ask for them is to pay for their dress and that was the cheapest dress I could find for good quality and in my area that’s pretty cheap.
I did try talking to her but her mind is made up about the situation since it’s too much pressure on her. Just frustrating for me since I’ve been planning for almost a year and she just got engaged and knew my date when she picked hers. I asked her to be my bridesmaid almost a year ago. Her wedding is going to be very simple because she can’t afford to have a big wedding like I can.

The thing is, we were very very very close and after she got engaged and started thinking Of her wedding she freaked out and shut me out and started competing with me and we weren’t getting along. Her mom and her own a business and her mom is the legit owner and she’s technically an employee/manager/co owner

LET ME CLARIFY I got engaged first, she got engaged second. 6 months apart. My “friend” was uncomfortable with MY OVERALL spending of my wedding. ie. Venue, wedding dress, flowers, food, photographer. I did ask her if $200 was too expensive for a bridesmaid dress and she said no it’s fine. She ALSO WANTED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE PLANNING PROCESS. I didn’t take her dress shopping for me, and she got upset so I took her with my mom and I. She didn’t realize how much weddings cost and got overwhelmed by her planning. She wants to have a big wedding like me, but can’t afford too. I asked EVERYONE if that price was okay and they all said yes, it’s fine. Average cost where I live is that. I AM NOT making my girls pay for hair and makeup. I didn’t know I was supposed to pay for that I thought they were supposed to. If they want it done, I’ll gladly pay for them.
I’m sorry for the confusion but it just sucks when you thought a good friend (even though we weren’t getting along at the moment) was going to be their for you but lies and blames you for kicking her out of my wedding.

That's really none of her business, what you spend on your wedding. I could see her being concerned about what she was asked to spend, but not on what you are spending.
