Bridesmaid Cowboy boots.. In a church, appropriate?

Mr&MrsW, on April 13, 2015 at 9:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

We are having our ceremony in a nice church. Do you think it is appropriate to have my bridesmaids to wear their cowboy boots in a church? All the men are wearing black shoes with their tuxes. I just want my girls to wear cowboy boots with short dresses. Do you think it will look weird if they wear them in church?

*The church is located in a small town, so the church is not like a 'FANCY' church like in bigger cities. It's just a nice small church.

I'm having my BM's in cowgirl boots also, twins! Lol but if I was getting married in a church I wouldn't want them in cowgirl boots. I'm having my ceremony at my reception venue.

I think it depends on how fancy your church is. I think in my church (small church in a rural area) you could, but in a super fancy chapel with stained glass it might look out of place. ETA: typo

I second Beth. It depends on the church, but since you specified that it's a "nice" church, I'd think cowboy boots might look out of place. Especially since your guys are wearing tuxes and black shoes. Could they change for the reception? (Although that would be asking a lot...)

Agree with it looking out of place. Also, some advice from my wedding planner when I was thinking of having my BM's wear cowboy boots: "If you do not wear cowboy boots at least once a week then you are most likely doing cowboy boots because it is trendy right now and you will regret it when you're looking at your pictures in a few years." And she was absolutely right.

Idk, maybe they could change into the cowboy boots for the reception if it's outside and just wear nice shoes at church. Ask the priest's/pastor's opinion, lol!

I don't think it really fits. Kinda like if you wanted the girls to wear heels for a beach wedding. It just doesn't fit. Especially with the guys in tuxes and dress shoes. It seems to informal if the boys are all dressed to the nines and girls have a more "casual" shoe.

That being said: its your day. If you want them in cow girl boots, then go right ahead.

I personally don't like it in a church. Maybe they can wear simple flats for the church and then put on the boots when it's time to party! They can also wear the boots for pictures but just wear flats to be a little more respectful to the venue/setting.

Do your BMs wear cowboy boots? If not you would be asking them to spend money on shoes they will never wear again. I just don't think cowboy boots on the girls and tuxes go together at all.

Yea - cowboy boots really have no place in a church (or a wedding IMO) unless you are getting married on a farm with a super casual affair. Definitely not somewhere someone else is wearing tux

MrsandMrG - That is easily the best advice:

"If you do not wear cowboy boots at least once a week then you are most likely doing cowboy boots because it is trendy right now and you will regret it when you're looking at your pictures in a few years."

If your guys are wearing tuxedos and dress shoes, it will totally clash with cowboy boots. My personal opinion of cowboy boots aside, you can really only pull it off if your entire party including yourselves are dressed more casual. It'd look ridiculous with your guys all done up and super classy with your girls hanging out in cowboy boots, honestly. Either all casual and all in boots, or all super dressed up.
