Brides postponing for coronavirus, are you having secret ceremony before new date?

We just postponed our 5/2/2020 wedding. We just postponed our 5/2/2020 wedding. Too many factors involved in our wedding with out of town guests, some saying no because of concern especially elderly and high risk guests, so we moved out the wedding. The date is now 1-2-2021. It is far off but that is all we could find as everything is booked up because of all the changes. Still not perfect date as some still said that may be a hard date for them, including wedding party, but we are just so over it and picked that date and said whoever shows up does.

So that comes to the fact that we really don't want to wait that long to be legally married. We want to get on with that part of our life as we have already been engaged for a year and a half and start changing insurance etc to make life easier on us. We are thinking of getting married quietly not telling anyone but parents for now and do the ceremony and reception later with everyone to celebrate. How many other brides may be doing a quick wedding legally before and still doing a bigger ceremony/reception for family later? Are you keeping it a secret or telling people you are getting married?

We decided to not get married with a separate ceremony and wait for our new date. In the end it had to do with mostly the fact that I didn't want to miss out on that experience with my fiance to have our wedding day as we planned. Having that small first ceremony was not what I dreamed. We worried at first he would lose his job over covid and that was why we partly wanted it sooner because of medical insurance. He ended up not getting fired and all is good so we don't have that pressing on us. I really wanted my day to go how I wanted and didn't want to compromise. I wanted that feeling of the excitement of him seeing me walk down the aisle in my dress to get married and have that location as my memory. If we got married before I worried that feeling of excitement would not be the same to see me in my dress or to get married for myself or others since it was already done. Also I would say a bit that people made me feel a bit bad about trying to keep it a secret in the posts. I was not trying to be deceptive to people but more wanted them to feel they were experiencing this for the first time as well. But people think it is deceptive, which I honestly don't think it is as that is not my intent. I do know people that got married in secret a few months before the wedding due to issues and never told anyone before. No one got mad or took offense. But it did bother me that people look it as disrespectful.

Aww I'm so glad to hear that you have a plan now though! I completely understand the feeling of it not feeling as special and not feeling as excited. I think for me, I have finally come to terms with it, but that's also why the elopement will be very simple. Just two witnesses, and we will just sign the papers and be done with it because I want to save the wedding feel for the actual wedding day where we will say our written vows to each other for the first time and wear our respective wedding attire for the first time, so I think it will still feel special because it will all still be a first. We applied for our marriage license, and I do feel excited that I am getting legally married on June 20, the day I wanted. I also kind of feel excited about people not knowing we are eloping. We will tell people eventually, but for now, I am really enjoying that only 3 other people know what we're doing. I've been very quiet on social media the past couple months anyways, so I'm kinda enjoying the mystery and people not knowing what I'm up to. I know everyone is different and has their own vision for what their wedding will look like. COVID has really messed things up for all of us, but I think I am feeling okay about the direction I've taken and I hope your wedding day is everything you dreamed of too!
