A sauna suit, also called a sauna exercise suit, workout sauna suit or a sauna sweat suit, is usually made of rubberized vinyl or nylon. Some are also made of plastic.

Athletes like boxers and wrestlers sometimes use these sweat suits to rapidly drop pounds when they have a "weigh in" approaching.

These suits work by trapping heat inside. You sweat profusely because of your body's increased attempt to stay cool. This is what a sauna sweat suit is designed to do.

These sauna suits act as a heat trap. Your body has a much harder time cooling itself while wearing one, and your core temperature can potentially rise to dangerous levels if you exercise in one of these suits.

Extreme core temperature elevation can possibly lead to heat stroke so care must be taken if you chose to do this to lose weight and as the OP said make sure to drink plenty of water because dehydration is really easy.

This is what they look like... very sexy! You wear your undergarments under it and thats it. You can wear it for a half hour at a time and I think its in the work out section of walmart.

Do you really lose weight tho or just excess water ?(which is not a bad thing!) I'm afraid i'd think i'm losing weight and then get depressed because i've gained it all back, when really i was shedding water. More info please - very interested!

Absolutely right, Im an athlete and I am use to the precautions associated with the suit. I actually workout for an hour on treadmil but in increments to prevent heatstrokes. I am trying to shed weight faster than regular exercise. I have a few engagements to attend prior to my wedding.

In time you begin to lose weight as well with any exercise program, you may give up too quickly. You can lose approx 5-6 lbs just by drinking more water (breaks food down faster) and eliminating fruit drinks and pop.

Does this have to be used during a workout or just normal wear?

You really just lose water weight but it might be enough to get you started working out. If so then give it a shot.

*sigh* When wanting to loose weight before the wedding eat fewer calories and work out more. Bottom line. These "do this" crap, is, well, crap. Also, those thinking they can loose tons of weight in a short time, get real. UGH!

There's a reason these things are $9. You will only be losing water weight, which, if you are drinking enough water as you should, you'd just put it back in. Over time if you are drinking enough water, your system will flush out all the extra junk and you can lose a few pounds this way. A sauna treatment will help you sweat out excess toxins in your system. You can accomplish this at home - for free - by steaming up your bathroom and taking a hot bath. I say keep your $9 bucks and get a good quality reusable water bottle and some fiber pills!

I agree they do work. i wear one when i walk and at times i even clean the house in it. i've lost 6lbs maybe more wearing it and excersising and i also drink GREEN TEA EXTRACT (LIQUID ONE) and i also use the website WWW.SPARKPEOPLE.COM to keep track of my intake of food and it tells you how many calories you've eaten etc... although the suits do rip easily and thank god there only $8 @ walmart. only a few mins of wearing them and your clothes will be soaked.
