Bride With Walking/balance Issues

on August 18, 2021 at 3:01 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 8
Hey everybody! So I’ve been contemplating this for MONTHS! I’m getting married next month and …. We’ll…‘I can’t walk. I’m awaiting a Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis and I’m currently not able to walk with out holding on to things or someone walking with me, but in front of me where I can use their shoulders to hold my self up using both hands. (Hope you can imagine what I’m saying ) my balance is almost non existent and I can’t stand longer than maybe 2 minutes without HAVING to sit. Anyone have any advice for me? Maybe someone with multiple sclerosis or walking issues or someone who knows someone who’s experiencing this and got married! Thank you

I know it isn't ideal, but can you use a walker? Maybe decorate it with flowers or ribbons or something?

Or could you walk if two people were helping hold you up?

Or could someone carry you down the aisle?

I assume you'll have matching chairs for yourself and your fiance at the altar so that you don't have to stand.

Are your guest aware of your limitations? Not that is matter I’m just curious.

I suggest walking down the aisle with someone in front of you so you can hold on to them. You also could rent a wheelchair and have it decorated with pretty flowers and be pushed down the aisle. A third option is to come from the side. Whatever you do ensure you have chair for the ceremony. I’d recommend that you and your partner both sit during the ceremony. I hope that helps.

I hope you get your diagnosis and a good treatment plan soon. Waiting in limbo is so difficult, on top of everything else!

I know your wedding is soon, but I would try out canes or a walker to see if that works for you. If not, the safest way to go is probably a wheel chair and chairs for both you and your future spouse at the altar.

Edited to add: Your wedding party (if you have one) should sit during the ceremony, too, but probably in the first row of guest chairs instead of at the altar.

How about a bridal party member on each arm to hold you up and then seat you in a chair at the end of the aisle?

Prayers for you. I don't have MS but I have autoimmune and know how challenging and frustrating it can be.

I'm so sorry! Can 2 people walk you down the aisle? Or if just one person is walking you - what about a really cool looking cane - I'm thinking Selma Blair at the Golden Globes. Decorating a wheel chair could also be really lovely, I have for sure seen this. Can you sit during the ceremony?

I'm sure you will still look beautiful and your wedding will be lovely. Best of luck, hopefully you can get the treatment you need asap

Trying to refrain from using a Walker 😩. Yes we have matching chairs at the alter for us both.
