Bride on a budget

Christina, on May 24, 2021 at 10:57 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I am a broke nursing student LOL and would prefer to keep my dress budget under $1,000. I do not plan on actually dress shopping for a few more months, but I am getting a little overwhelmed with the prices I have seen while doing research online. I live around the south suburbs of Chicago. Any fellow brides from the area that could recommend affordable designers/bridal salons? Any tips or recommendations are appreciated Smiley smile

I think there's a BHLDN in Chicago right? They have a few dresses just under 1000 (or juuuust above it, if you can go up at all) regular price, and then there's an entire sale section with lots of dresses under 1000. Sale section here.

The best places I've seen for an affordable wedding dress are BHLDN and Lulu's. Also, if you're open to wearing a dress that has already been worn before, you can get amazing dresses for well under $1000 online or even at a sample sale.

Stillwhite.com has used dresses or sample dresses

For online try Lulu's, Azazie or Avery Austin

I haven't used Avery Austin personally but you can try on before you buy for a small fee

Look at white formal gowns at department stores and online. McDuggal has a lot a dress that look bridal.

Seconding previous posters - I got my dress from BHLDN on sale for like $500 (originally $1,500!) - it's beautiful, well made, and fit perfectly out of the box! Also agree to check out websites for preowned wedding dresses and sample sales / trunk shows at nearby salons, you can get some great deals but pay close attention to measurements - bridal sizing is definitely not the same as street sizing!

I found a ceremony dress around your price range at Brides by Young in Schaumberg. It's a plus store with sample sizes 14+, but they welcome brides of all sizes.

I would call any store and tell them your preferred price range, and if you both match, then go forward with booking an appointment. Many places have a range of price options, and it doesn't hurt to ask or visit. Do keep in mind cost of alterations, and they should provide a quote or even include in your purchase contract.

Oh, also i read some brides had great luck with Black Friday sales. You could wait and see then. Depending on dress maker, 6-7 months prior to wedding date may be the latest time for you to find a dress that will get cut, made, shipped, and altered. Best wishes.

My sister got married while in Med school and she got her dress from BHLDN. David's Bridal and Lulu's are also good options.

I am in the same boat. I have been looking at some bridesmaids dresses to use instead but I am also getting married on the beach so I am not looking for something over the top anyway.

I’m not looking for anything over the top either. That’s never really been my style. I just want something that feels like me, you know? And if it’s affordable, even better 😂
Best of luck on your search 💗

Try Cocomelody, and David’s .... if you try on something in store that you love you can usually find it online for a cheaper price at stillwhite, preownedweddingdress, and nearlynewlywed. They have gowns that are new, samples and used for a fraction of the price.

David’s bridal will be your best bet. Or buying a dress second hand from a bride off a Facebook site

My best friend found a designer dress used on OfferUp for $300, it was beautiful. It was basically brand new and she just needed to have it altered.

I found my dress at David’s for $200 (also sign up for their diamond club for more discounts). Then a back up dress for $150 that I also love.
I see dresses for sale on FB regularly in a state wedding tag sale page.
You could even doll up a bridesmaid dress with a belt and cape and veil, alterations, etc. which on another note think about, because special underwear and alterations and preservation are possible additional costs.

I bought mine online from David's. It was only $80 to begin with, but I bought it when it was on sale. After tax and shipping I only paid about $86. Since I didn't know if that would work, I got a backup dress from Macy's for $100 that I returned for a full refund just after the wedding since I didn't use it. My dress was definitely on the less fancy end of things, but I've seen a lot of really nice dresses on the David's site (and even more in store when I did a fitting) for well under $1000. And I'll echo Victoria - sign up for the diamond club! The dress I bought was only on sale for diamond club members.
