Bridal shower body measurements

Karen, on April 14, 2017 at 2:27 PM

I got a friends invite in the mail, her moh is throwing the shower... I was excited to receive the invite- I was baffled that the brides body measurements were a part of the invite- waist- hips- bra size. I've never heard of such a thing- any insight on what this means? Thank you!

@EW, some people have a lingerie shower in lieu of a traditional shower and bachelorette.

Oh got it! All the brides I know did a traditional shower and a bachelorette where most people brought lingerie as gifts. What do people gift for the bachelorette if there's already been a lingerie shower?

@EW-most people don't gift anything at a bachelorette except maybe a couple of rounds.

Yeah, I've never seen or heard of gifts at the bachelorette, other than buying drinks or a pedicure or something for the bride as part of the event.

Really? Every one I've been to had gifts. Usually sex related. That's interesting. I've always purchased 3 gifts for every wedding I've attended.

I've never been to a bachelorette with gifts. However, most of the bachelorettes I go to are super low key girls nights.

This is exactly why I have repeatedly had to back my MOH away from a lingerie shower at the bachelorette. I would be mortified to share my clothing size/measurements. I am small chested and have wide hips which is the worst combination for underwear.

It is so weird that my MOH keeps pushing it too because after her bachelorette she told me that she was embarrassed to put her real size on the invite insert and lowered it and then returned them! That alone sounded crazy to me because returning everything must have been a nightmare.

I'm very much team No Lingerie for the bride.

I've seen that on almost every shower invite I've received. I thought it was normal.

I've never been to a shower with lingerie. Always home items from the registry. Then at the bachelorette the bride is gifted with lingerie or more personal items. It works out well because the brides not opening anything she doesn't want to in front of family.

Maybe its regional or cultural but the bridal showers I have been to included lingerie gifts, many of them. Never was there a separate "lingerie party" WW is the 1st time Ive heard of this. And absolutely no one has been uncomfortable, shy, or felt awkward opening their lingerie gifts in front of other women. Obviously, it would be different if it were a coed shower, then yes weird AF. But It seems kind of obvious that there will be sex in the honeymoon and thereafter in the marriage. So as brides we don't just need pots and pans. Lingerie is also part of the tools of the trade. Lmao. I could see it being awkward if you have to try it on which has never been the case. But opening lingerie in front of your nearest and dearest (aunts, cousins, mom, and friends). Unless you are a virgin I really cant see how this is awkward, and even so its 2017 and we are all adults. But Im with @Lyla maybe Im a big ho too lmao.

OP it is odd that the host provided measurements, and not sizes. But sizes do run differently depending on the store. Anyhow, this is clearly for guests who wish to gift lingerie. Better to get the right size than not.

Any bachelorette party I've been to (in Minnesota) has always had some sort of gift giving portion with lingerie. I've been asked to design invites that had the brides bra and underwear size on it and didn't think it was odd but maybe it's a regional thing and I'm just used to it. For a bridal shower though... sounds strange to me.

I'm so so glad I didn't get any lingerie for my shower! I'd be so embarrassed to open that in front of his family and my Grandma!

But yes, the measurements are in case you want to buy lingerie.

Usually at a traditional shower, the BMs surprise the bride with some sort of tawdry lingerie. In that case, usually someone already knows the bride's measurements.

My cousin had a Lingerie Shower, and when she opened each item we all came up with names and voted on them so she could make a "Lingerie Menu" for her now H.
