Bridal shower and bachelorette party on the same day?

Katie, on April 18, 2016 at 3:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Let me start by saying I am not planning my own shower or bachelorette party. Three of my bridesmaids are planning the shower and the other three are planning the bachelorette party (all offered and I’m very thankful). They all have very busy schedules for the 3 months before the wedding. After looking over their schedules they realized they all have August 27th free so they want to do both parties the same day. The shower from 12-2 pm and the bachelorette starting around 5:00 pm. I plan on inviting around 25 to the shower and about 10-13 girls for the bachelorette many of whom would be invited to both parties. Also FH’s bachelor party would be the same night.

I am fine with the parties being on the same day but also worried that things could get hectic and people get tired. They are keeping everything a surprise so I have no idea what we would actually be doing. Is there any etiquette saying you can’t have both parties the same day? Also any tips appreciated.

I don't think there's any etiquette saying you can't have both on the same day, especially if anyone attending both has to travel. That being said, I'd personally be sleeping in a little later that day and maybe try to sneak a nap in between. That's going to be a very fun and busy weekend for you! :-)

I did both of mine on the same day since I travelled home from Tennessee to Pennsylvanian for them. I didn't want to have to make two trips so we did the shower during the day and the bach party at night. We were a little sleepy by the end of the night, but we definitely made it work. Just make sure to drink lots of water, eat some good food, and keep your energy up. It should definitely work out!

My shower and bachelorette/graduation party are going to be on the same day - April 30th, so it is just around the corner for me! I am in school and with my schedule, my VIP family member's schedule (some are out of country until that weekend) and with the fact that my last final is April 26th, I couldn't imagine having it sooner. I also just got a promotion at work so that is hectic. Luckily my friends and family have been pretty awesome about everything being in one weekend - some people are skipping the graduation party or the shower and not going to both. I requested it all in one weekend and to make it a graduation party so more of my male family members who are coming in from out of town, plus we are going to a Pirates game and tailgating so it is gender/age appropriate for whoever wants to come! It also means the family that comes in gets to see my graduation if they'd like. My MOH is flying in from Houston, TX, and I didn't want her to come out multiple times (even though she offered to). I believe my shower is 12-2, with a short break, and then tailgating from 4-7 and then a Pirates baseball game from 7-whenver. It is fireworks night, and if we actually have energy we may swing by a bar afterward, but I think by that point we'll all be tired. Smiley smile

My FH's bachelor party won't be that evening because he will be coming to the game with us, but I haven't had anyone really complain. One friend has her daughters that weekend so she asked to bring them to the shower (since she will be attending the game later in the evening and didn't want them to spend all day with their grandparents) - I checked with my MOH to make sure no one minded, but her two daughters are awesome and since it is low key and only from 12-2 it worked out.

I'm doing it!! Shower from 2-5 and then Bachelorette later that night. We'll be hanging in the hotel room in between eating up to soak up all the alcohol for later Smiley winking The only one who had an issue with this was my SIL/BM who got it in her head it was a bad idea and tried to talk my entire BP out of it (unsuccessfully). My BFF/BM had to basically call me say "tell me exactly what you want and I'll fight for it" and then went back and shut it down Smiley smile Since I have people traveling for this I wanted it all on the same day and, honestly, for where it falls in the planning calendar, August is super-crazy, so I can only give up one day Smiley smile I can't wait!!!!!

One of my friends did this and it was great. It makes it easier for people that aren't in the area to have to only come into town once and are able to attend everything. The shower was from 12-2 and then the Bach started at 5:30.

ETA: Another friend did her bach on Friday/ Saturday then her shower on Sunday. I would highly refrain from doing that. Talk about hangovers from hell!

I've been to both in the same day before too when a lot of the bridal party was coming in from out of town. The shower was a brunch in the morning, around 10 or 11 I think, and over by 1. That gave people time to still run their normal Saturday errands or whatever and then we met back up for dinner and drinking at 6. It actually worked great to have the shower pretty early in the day.

I've seen it done before! It's especially useful when bridesmaids have to travel. Nothing wrong with it! I was going to do the same for a shower/bachelorette party that I am hosting. However, the bridesmaid we were planning for moved into town with us and we separated the two events!

If it's easiest for the people planning them, then it's probably fine.

As a guest or as a bride, I would probably prefer them on separate days, but I think it'll still be fine.

My shower and bachelorette are both this Saturday. As others have stated it was scheduled this way so those attending from out of town could attend both events! I am getting excited! It will be a hectic day but should be fun!!
