Bridal Shower Alternative?

Hi! FH and I aren't registering for anything since our wedding will be a destination wedding for us (not my family) and figuring out shipping / how to get any gifts home will just be too complicated. Anyways, as a result, I assumed I wouldn't have a bridal shower and told my family there was no need to throw me one since we aren't registering. However, my mom really wants to throw me a shower. Are there any bridal shower alternatives that I can suggest? She suggested a "personal" shower for lingerie and stuff like that, but I think that's awkward. I thought maybe a recipe shower where everyone brings a recipe to share, but my mom doesn't like that idea. I love the idea of having people together for an afternoon, but we don't need any gifts and even creating a small registry doesn't make sense for our situation. Any creative suggestions? Obviously, I won't be asking for cash, creating a honeymoon registry or anything along those lines.
