I ordered my dress in Nov for my Wedding from a small local bridal shop. I was fitted and she said I was a perfect size 14. After months of nothing, she originally said my dress would be in by Jan. I ordered my dress in Nov for my Wedding from a small local bridal shop. I was fitted and she said I was a perfect size 14. After months of nothing, she originally said my dress would be in by Jan. It finally arrived this Monday. But the dress isn't a size 14 but a size 16. The owner said that the company won't send her another dress and they claim she said 16 not 14. The owner thinks it will be fine and I can have the dress taken in. However I've been losing weight for the wedding and I'm concerned about the dress getting altered to fit me whenever I'm now closer to a 12 than the 14 that was ordered in the first place.

Should I demand the owner make this right? I paid for the 14 not the 16. I'm afraid having the dress altered down two sizes will hurt the detail of my gown. I'm afraid it will look bad.

I would tell them to re-order too, especially since you have lost weight. Most dresses are only designed to be taken in a couple of sizes, so it could definitely effect the overall look of your dress.

I would make her fix it. The alterations could change the dress if you have it taken in too much and it really was her fault. Its unfortunate that she made a mistake but a good business owner would make this right.

I've read (online boards) where brides have actually called the customer service number, that they found on the designer's website, to help solve the problem. I can't believe they wouldn't have a size 14 of that gown, somewhere in their stock?

My biggest concern would be how quickly they'd be able to get you another one. It looks like it took about 5 months the first time. 5 months the second time would put you at about a month before your wedding. If you are able to make them order another dress (which I totally think you should do) I think you should also make them promise (and get it in writing) that they will be able to rush any alterations that might need to be done at that time.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I've heard horror stories about wedding dresses, and it's for this reason that I had told the bridal shop that I was getting married in June. I wanted to make sure I got my dress before the time I needed it. Just in case mistakes like this are maybe I'll have enough time to get another dress.

Go back and tell them to reorder the dress that you paid for.

I think the bridal shop needs to pay for your alterations as they made the mistake.

They need to rush order the correct size. They can sell off the incorrect size as a sample

Updated - She is ordering me the right size and it is being rushed and will be in by the end of July. She wasn't very happy about it but she did do the right thing. So no reason to worry! =)
