Bridal Robes Played Out???

C!, on November 4, 2016 at 8:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

Hey y'all!

Anyone have thoughts on bridal robes for the wedding party getting ready?? Is it played out?? I LOVE the way they look... but I feel like everyone does it! Anyone have any unique alternatives that still look fun and classy? I'm doing a beach wedding, so I considered doing swim cover ups, but I can't find any that are just right.

THOUGHTS!?!?

Well, odds are that the people who are looking at your photos haven't been haunting pinterest so they haven't seen them 40 times... if you like them do them, but I also think they're kind of impractical.

The swim coverups are a cute ideaI think one bride here used plaid shirts which was cute too, but probably not for the beach.

    Maybe an oversized button down?

I got a robe in the wedding I was in about a month ago and it was actually really nice (I wear it everyday) but it wasn't one of the "bridesmaids" robes that are marketed. It's a really soft cotton robe from Jockey that my friend had monogrammed separately. It doesn't say Bridesmaid on it anywhere.

I didn't get my girls robes because honestly, they're never going to wear it again. The only way it works is if it's a nice cotton robe in a normal color that doesn't say 'bridesmaid' anywhere.

I thought about getting my girls robes but they all have their own anyways so I decided to get them other things as robes on day of are just a prop.

I got plain blush robes for pictures, and a white lace one for me. That's not their gift though, I'm getting them a monogrammed tote full of other stuff too.

I would prefer a cute set of pajamas. Like a set of shorts with a cute lace fringe and a tank top.

Yes pajamas are cute, robes can get expensive depending on what you want....I had my girls wear plaid shirts because I knew they all had them and wouldn't have to buy anything but we would all match (plus it was cute because half my friends were country girls and the others were hipster girls so it worked well haha!) I like the swim idea for the beach though!

Probably UO here but I think they're weird and I think "getting ready" photos are weird so I say no to robes, PJs, oversized shirts, etc.

Swim coverups sound great! If you love robes, get them robes...just don't put "bridesmaid" on the back. Leave them plain or with their name/initials.

My robe says "wifey" which, I will never get tired of wearing. My BMs are plain.

I'm not a fan of them and feel as though they are a waste of money. And I see them way too much. I did see someone do big white oversized shirts for everyone which was still a waste of money in my eyes but different than the typical robe.

What's played out is the idea of capturing everyone getting ready together. I told my girls to just show up dressed and ready to go.

I ordered long sleeve/pant button up pajamas for my girls. I got them on sale from Kohl's for $24/each. Their's are light blue with a paisley print and mine are light pink with a paisley print. I figured these are something we would be comfy in while getting ready, and they would use them again!

I've received 3 robes from being in weddings, and the only one I still use is the thick waffle weave cotton robe. I have 2 silk robes that fell open the entire time we were getting ready for the wedding and they were so annoying that we all ended up just taking them off.

Whitta is so right. Those slithery polyester robes don't stay closed and are really thin, which makes them uncomfortable for pics. I am also chiming in with the "so done with getting ready pics" crew.

I like the robes. I just ordered some for my bridal party. I went with a plain waffle knit robe and only got mine monogrammed. I was originally going to do the silk robes but decided these were more practical. Even if it is "played out" if it is something you like then do it.

I ordered them for my girls, but I didn't spend a huge chunk of change on them. I think I paid like $6 each, and spent around $30. They aren't the greatest quality and came from China, but I know they will never wear them again, and that's fine. But a lot of people are doing pajamas, the monogrammed shirts, flannels, etc...Just make sure that you are aware that some (or all) of your BM's may never wear this stuff again. That was a factor in how much I spent on this stuff.

My opinion on it is: if you will be comfortable having your makeup and hair done in a robe, go ahead and get yourself a robe. If you really want pictures in robes with your bridesmaids, go ahead and get robes for them too, but that shouldn't be their only gift.

I don't know whether it's played out. As Celia said you will probably show pictures to people who haven't seen it before. I just wasn't comfortable hanging out with the moms and beauty professionals without pants on. Maybe robes just don't fit my body right? I only wear them at home. The morning of the wedding, I just wore yoga pants and a loose button down shirt. I didn't ask my bridesmaids to dress in matching outfits. I have a couple getting ready pictures that are unstaged, and I'm happy with the group pictures I have with my bridesmaids fully dressed.

I think they are overdone, but only because I think a lot of people get them because they think they should or they want them as props for a photoshoot like a lot of people have mentioned before.

If you really like them and think your bridesmaids would enjoy them after the wedding I would get them. But definitely don't put 'bridesmaid' on it anywhere. Also think about getting practical ones, not the cutesy floral ones that only go down to just past your butt.

I've thought about getting them for my BMs because they NEED them lol. When getting ready for numerous events together, we're always in our underwear or a towel getting ready. I wouldn't bother to get them monogrammed (not that they would care), but was thinking to go more the plain route, instead of floral. The flannels are nice, but they'll never wear them again. I have a way better chance of them using the robe or pajamas.

Im still going back and forth on this... but I have considered the long button down shirts too.. or an off the shoulder shirt.. that way their hair or makeup wont get messed with.
