Bridal Portrait at Reception????

Megan, on June 9, 2017 at 12:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I did not know this was something that was done. My photographer is doing my bridal portraits at the end of August and said I would have time to get any prints I wanted to use at the wedding. I was so confused. I have never been to a wedding/reception was this was done. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've never heard of this, and it honestly sounds a little strange to me.

This is a SUPER southern and dated tradition. I live in the deep south and still only see this done on occasion these days, but it did used to be the norm. My mother threw a gigantic fit when I refused to let her display a gigantic bridal portrait. I finally was able to get her to compromise by doing an engagement pic of both DH and I in a much smaller size than she wanted. I think we settled on a 12x14, when she wanted something more than double the size. I just felt so awkward about have a giant pic of myself displayed...when I was right there... so awkward. She did print a giant bridal pic to hang in her house....which is fine. it didn't impact my guests and I don't have to see it all the time.

I've seen it done at almost every wedding I've been too. Southern tradition?.. eh, maybe? It's up to you if you want to display a bridal portrait. My photographer was going to do one of our engagement photos since the bridal shoot is the day of the wedding. I will probably not do wither unless we decide to use one as a guest book or something

Ok, thank goodness. I had never seen this done at any weddings I have ever attended. I live in the south so that explains why it was asked. I just felt it was weird and I was worried I had stumbled over yet another wedding thing I was supposed to do and did not know about. Glad it is not just me that has never heard of it. I am not comfortable with this idea and was not wanting to do it. It just threw me off when my photographer said this to me earlier.

It's a southern thing. Most brides do them the same day as their HMU trials and a lot of florists will do a mock-up of the bridal bouquet as part of the price of their floral packages (usually a smaller scale).

My sisters both did this and their bridals are now hanging in their homes. I think they're pretty but if you don't want to do it, you don't *have* to.

Yeah, I've seen this at a lot of southern weddings. I think it's kinda weird, but they make for beautiful pictures in your home!
