Bridal Party Size

Kalyn, on April 8, 2017 at 12:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

I haven't picked my bridal party yet, but I have 6 close friends (5 of which I was a bridesmaid in their wedding) and a future SIL, so I'm looking at possibly 7 bridesmaids. Is that too many for a small-ish wedding (100-120 people)? I'm not sure what the norm is. Any advice is helpful, thanks!

We had no bridal party and we are so happy with that decision - less stress for EVERYONE! Our close friends and family can just attend as guests and not worry about a specific outfit to wear Smiley smile

I personally think 7 bridesmaids is too many, but there are people who have that many or more. Just keep in mind costs will add up more (bouquets, gifts, more people (wedding party and their partners/plus 1s) at the rehearsal dinner, etc.).

Oh good point, Rachel. I didn't think about the added costs, honestly. I could cut it down to 5 with 2 possibly hurt friends (since I was in their weddings, but both were 5 years ago). We'll see. Good point to think about though, thank you!

For me, 7 is way too many. But for you, it might not be. It's all a matter of preference.

It all depends on what you want for your day. I have 3 ladies including MOH and FH has 3 guys including a Best Man. If you can afford to have that many people then do it. If not make a decision on who would be in it. But you have plenty of time to make that choice. Don't ask anyone yet.

I agree with PP, it all depends on who you're going to choose. But it is kind of too early to decide. My MOH is my mom, BM (best mom) is FH's mom, GM are my brothers, BM is my sister, & youngest brother is ring bearer. I'm also having my youngest two walking cousins come down the aisle with a "here comes the bride" sign

I think it it up to you. If you have 7 important people you want to stand with you, then have 7.

I knew from the moment I started talking marriage that I would have 4 women stand next to me.

Like PP have said.. that is up to you. You need to make sure you want them there. You have alot of time and things change. Since we started planning (9 months ago) i was thinking 7 now im thinking 4-5. Things change, I am glad I didn't ask people yet. Budget is the biggest thing. Once you get the venue, DJ, photographer, flowers etc.. $$$$ it adds up, just make sure you have money to treat your BP well.

Our BP is bigger than I originally thought we would have. Each person has a special place in our hearts and we want them all standing with us. We are having 5 attendants each and two flower girls. It is a really personal decision.

I have 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsman. Honestly my SIL has made it the most stressful and frustrating part of the entire wedding! I wish I just went with 3. My sister cousin and brothers wife. It would have been way less stressful!!!

My bridal party size is 0. My FH and I are choosing not to have one for a variety of reasons including less stress, drama, money, and less coordination worries especially with bridal party members (if we are going to have them) being all over the country.

I've seen as many as 12. Overkill. Even 7 seems excessive. 4 would do it, IMO. If any Smiley smile
