Bridal Party Getting Ready Outfits

Kimberly, on July 5, 2018 at 3:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35
I have my photographer for some of the time that we are getting ready, so I want to get "getting ready" photos. The thing is, our gifts for our wedding party are already pretty pricey in addition to the things we're getting them to wear for the actual day. From robes (which to be honest, I don't even love) to monogrammed flannels (which are HARD to find in purple), I cannot find reasonable deals anywhere, and I can't justify spending an additional $30.00/person after everything else (well over $50/person in gifts). So my question is: anybody have "getting ready" shots where the bridal party DOESN'T match? Did you tell your girls to try to wear a specific color? Did you tell them to just all go with a certain style? Are you planning on getting "getting ready" pictures but aren't planning on providing matching outfits? Are there good deals out there and I'm just looking in the wrong place? Am I being way too crazy about this?? Pinterest pictures of bridal parties have me obsessing over this. Help please!

I think normal outfits look perfectly fine! But if you like the matching look, you could ask all the girls to wear a tank top or flannel with leggings (so they match enough). Did they buy shirts for your bachelorette party? That's another great way to reuse those. I'd check places like Kohls or Macys or Ross too, they have deals occasionally on flannels/tanks/etc. that can be less than $5 per shirt! I'm getting robes (I love robes) on Etsy for $20 a person, but I've seen plenty of shirts for $10 a person on Etsy and Amazon too.

We are doing "getting ready" pictures but I'm not buying anything matching because it's totally not us (I think if I got them robes to wear they would revolt hahaha) I think not matching will be fine because it's just who we are Smiley smile

I totally get that the Pinterest trend is tempting to follow hahaha. I caved and bought myself a bride robe from Gaia Spot like right after I got engaged because I got excited lol. It was only like $15 so that’d be good to check out if you’re set on buying them.

Im definitely going to wear that myself since I bought it on an impulse and I have it now so might as well lol, but I don’t intend to get getting ready clothes for my bridal party, and we are having our photographer there. I get the temptation of wanting to follow the Pinterest trends but it seems like something you can cut out of your budget.

Even though it looks nice on Pinterest, honestly when you put the photos in your wedding album and are showing them to your grandchildren, are you really going to care if the bridal party is matching? Idk, I love that we’re having our photographer there to capture it, but I don’t think it’s necessary to match just for the sake of getting ready photos. They’ll be matching the rest of the day in their dresses

I am in the exact same boat as you. I think what Im going to try and find r simple button down shirts, all the same color. I will wear the robe. Don't want to go over $15 a piece.

I don't think they need to match at all, but from a photography standpoint you'd probably want to set some restriction (only certain colors, or not patterned) in order to still have a cohesive and not overly busy photo.

I really wanted robes for all of us but couldn’t bring myself to spend that much for the outfits for a few pictures. Our colors are burgundy and champagne. I went to Ross last weekend and I found lounge shorts for $5 each so I got three in sort of a champagne color and mine will be burgundy. Then I got three burgundy tank tops and a white for me. And I bought iron on wedding titles at hobby lobby for $10 so I’ll put the titles on the shirts myself. So I got four outfits for only like $60.

I think the matching outfits are overboard and definitely don't qualify as a gift from the brides who think they do.

If the pics are important to you, I would just ask them all to wear a white T shirt and bottoms of their choice. Who doesn't have a white t shirt? Your photographer can decide if the bottoms are coordinated enough for a full length shot or just do a waist up.

I don't think y'all HAVE to match. You can definitely ask them to wear a specific color or pajamas or whatever. That would look nice and cohesive. A cheaper option would be to buy plain t-shirts and find someone who makes vinyl monograms/ Etsy and iron them on yourself.

I got my girls robes because part of the Hair/MUA contract (that I am providing) states that they can't have anything that pulls over their face or heads. Then I realized I didn't want them to feel naked under those robes so I found some cute shorts/ tanks( spaghetti straps that'll easily pull down) in the sleepwear section of Target for $12.99. The robes and jammies will also be useful because we are all spending the night the night before at the cute little VRBO I rented for getting ready. This isn't their gift but it is a cost effective way to make sure no one feels uncomfortable in the photos that will be taken. Old Navy also had cute inexpensive options.

See robes seem like the most inexpensive option and some of them are great, but I was just in a wedding and had to wear a robe, and I was uncomfortable and self conscious the ENTIRE time. I don't want to do that to anybody else which is why I'm looking at more options. We too are getting an airbnb because everybody is coming from out of town so we could look at more options. Button downs are nice because they don't have to pull it over their hair/makeup when they're done... Maybe I should just keep looking?

Don't know about the bachelorette party thing... My sister and MOH are planning it and it'll be the Friday before the wedding so I'm not sure if it'll include shirts or what have you. Nice idea though!

You're making your girls sign a contract about their hair and makeup to be in your wedding? That would be one way to get me to drop out of your wedding.

OP, I'm in the same boat as you. Pinterest is making me want matching outfits for getting ready pictures but I'm not wanting to spend money on it. I also think it's a little cheesy and I'm pretty sure my girls will too. But I also don't want to tell them what to wear without providing it so I'd love to see some unmatched getting ready outfits.

I think she meant that she is paying for her bridesmaid’s hair and make up. It is the HMUA artist’s request in the contract the bride signed that they not wear anything that has to go over their face or hair so it doesn’t get ruined.

My mom kindly purchased pajamas sets from Adore Me for myself and my bridesmaids to get ready in. They are pricier. Even With her promo codes they still were $30/set but they are so so comfy and all my girls loved them!

I think she's saying the contract SHE has to sign for her HMUA states that. Not that it is a rule she made up or that the girls need to sign contracts.

We're not going to have any getting ready outfits. If you really want people to match somewhat, you could follow some of the suggestions that PPs have give you above. I think I'm going to like my pictures in whatever the girls decide to wear, better than if they were matching, because I'll see more of their personality in it.

I'm so not a matching outfit person at all. I'm reminding my girls to wear button down shirts so hair/makeup doesn't get messed when they take them off and to wear something comfy on the bottom and I'm leaving it at that. Of course, our "getting ready" photos are going to be after they are already in their dresses, with just some last minute touch up photos, me presenting them with their gifts and very few posed shots.

I'm getting flannels at walmart for my girls and then asking them to wear dark bottoms. Its a november wedding and my girls will wear the flannels again. They are around $15 at walmart (faded glory mens) and they have different colors too.

OOOH! We are having a November wedding too so I might have to go check out Walmart. Also, I'm fairly certain all my girls have flannels so maybe I'll just suggest they wear them and that way they can get whatever flannel they're most comfortable in?

I'm feeling a lot more relaxed about this y'all. I was starting to get nervous that this "trend" was becoming more of a "requirement"! (Still would love to see pictures if you all have them!)

I wanted to do this for my mom & I, because I know she’d really like it, but am having a hard time rationalizing the $25+ each for something we just need to get ready in. I’m not having a bridal party, but my mom is getting her H&MU done with me & helping me get ready. I think the direction I’m going to search Target/WalMart/Old Navy for some cheap button ups & I found some really cute glitter “Mother of the Bride” and “Bride” iron ons for the back on Etsy for like $6-8.
