Thanks everybody! I figured it was probably not worth it, I'll probably just go to Sephora or something like that if I need makeup advice Smiley smile

Okay I think I got invited to something like this. A friend went to a bridal show years back and "won" this demonstration (not sure what company), so she invited friends to her house and the person came to demo products. I did feel a bit pressured to purchase the products. It wasn't terrible though.

I won one of those as well but I did not do it. I am not a fan or Marry Kay stuff so I figured it would be a waste of my time.

Oh no I would die if I had a a Mary K sales rep hounding me. I myself am a professional makeup artist in orlando, fl and I would never found a client. Not to get off subject but I am collecting information to expand my services. What types of pampering do you lovely future brides love to get on your big day. Please and thank you

I had the same exact experience as Pancakes. It was horrible and a waste of my time that I will never get back. Also the Mary Kay lady who talked me into it called and texted me all the time after that. I had to end up blocking her number it got so bad.

Okay, I'm confused about the people upset about the "god, family, work" thing. What order do you think those should be in?

Not sure if it was my appts at David's bridal or signing up for a bridal expo I couldn't make, but I am spammed with mail and email for all sorts of wedding prizes and freebies. Mary Kay kept hounding my email and voicemail for two weeks straight asking me to set up an spot for my free spa day. No thanks

I won three of these within a two month time span. I guess they got my name from the bridal show I went to. I just told them that I already had a Mary Kay rep and they left me alone. It was half true - my aunt sells and actually makes a killing, but I don't buy from her. lol

I have been to a ton of MK parties, demonstrations, etc. Mostly via friends/family members who were doing the parties and such. I've never had a bad experience, personally. I also do not buy the product because I couldn't afford it even if I did want to drop $50 on a bronzer. BUT I will say that one of my very good friends was a MK rep, so I got discounted products through her (like demo tubes that they were discontinuing, or she would just pass on her own discount to me) and I have really liked all the MK products I've used. My friend got me a lip set one year for a present - an exfoliant and smoother. Exfoliate my lips?? I thought it was insane, but then I used it and it felt soooo good. Another perk: most of the MK parties I have been to, they give away one or two products. I've gotten plenty of free goodies, free facials, and when it came time for the selling, I would just tell them that I already have an MK rep. Part of their deal is that they're not supposed to try and poach each other's customer base, so with one exception, that always got me off the hook.

I have been reading so many comments, both on this site and others. I too received an email saying I'd "won" a free Bridal Package, (also because I went to David's Bridal). From the start I realized that there would be strings attached, as in I am aware that the reps are trying to ultimately get people to buy their products, but this isn't necessarily a negative thing, as they cannot FORCE you to buy, even if they do pressure you in some ways (and certain consultants more than others). Nothing in life is completely free. The consultants give of their time and energy, and they also need to make a living or are doing this job for some extra income. I have no issue whatsoever with this.

I still thought that going to a free session would maybe be something fun to do with my mom. I recently moved to the U.S. from Canada, and because of this my mom hasn't been able to be very involved in much of the wedding planning and preparation. So, I thought it would be nice to do something like this with her. Here's my issue (other than with David's Bridal just giving out personal information). The Mark Kay consultant emailed me twice with the notice that I'd "won" and seemed very intent that I reply....until she found out that I was from Canada, and so is everyone I would possibly bring along with me to the "makeover". Then she became far less excited and strangely hard to get in contact with. I had both her phone number and her email, and I used both...no reply.

Our last contact was August 18th when I asked for days and times she had available and let her know I needed to discuss those times with my mom and choose one. She never answered. So I emailed her today (9 days later) and let her know I now have to decline, as she failed to get back to me and answer my question. My wedding is September 5th of this year, and there is no longer time to schedule anything for when my mom will be in town.

I am not impressed. I can understand her feeling less inclined to set up an appointment thinking that she isn't likely to get any future business from me and my mom, but after her earlier enthusiasm, to just drop off the radar with no explanation is far from courteous or professional.

And who knows? If we had liked the product and her presentation, we may have chosen to buy something. Even some business is better than none. And at the very least, good word of mouth is so very beneficial in this kind of work. Now, rather than leaving a good impression with me in regards to Mary Kay, she has instead left me feeling skeptical and slighted. I respect all those who do jobs like this, I too have done extra things for a little more income, but you need to treat people with respect and fairness.

I simply urge all you brides who receive this offer in the future or have currently received it to be careful. Go into it knowing the consultant wants (and needs) to make a profit, but also know many have had positive experiences. And above all, pay attention to what's going on. There are many different situations. Don't be pressured into buying anything or going ahead with it if something doesn't feel right. It's not worth it.

As a Mary Kay beauty consultant, it was rough reading through the comments on this question. One truth about Mary Kay is that each consultant is truly running her own business, her own way, and it's upsetting how many different people here had a pushy, misleading experience contributing to such a negative interpretation of the company. Personally, the ideas of preaching the faith, family, work at an event, and only doing half of people faces, are strange to me. I wouldn't want to be preached to, nor have my time wasted with literally half a facial, so I would never do that to my clients. I would never want to be pushed to buy anything I don't want/need/can't afford, so I don't do it to my clients. I would also never corner guests to discuss recruiting for 20 minutes, unless a person specifically expressed interest. It is true that consultants follow a "hands off" rule, that is partially legal, and partially for the client to know how to apply the products/makeup at home. I'm sorry that you ladies had such bad experiences. It is also true that every entry "wins" the facial, however most consultants offer a 1-3rd place prize (usually free products).

Reading this has definitely given me some insight on what NOT to do, and how to make this a worthwhile experience for any client, especially excited bride-to-be's!!!

Wow. I came on here because I had the same question.. I “won” a bridal pampering experience for me and my bridesmaids and it said we would get a free facial with microdermabrasion or a charcoal mask, free lip and hand scrub with some kind of satin treatment and free skin matching foundation with a goody bag to take home. After having my girls sign up and requesting off work, I decided to see if it was too good to be true.. I’m glad I did. I should have known because the lady who contacted me is also a realtor, so she was already pushing to see if we knew anyone buying a house. 😒

I had one and I work for Mary Kay! I did not get a goodie bag for my bridal shower which you are supposed to get... Some of the Mary Kay workers try to scam you into buying a goodie bag when it's supposed to be free and up charge the price on the products they sell. Plus when you order from them half the time you never get everything together ordered! It just depends on who you will be working with.
