Bridal makeup Quote...outrageous or the norm? * just sharing an update!*

Chris & Jennifer, on June 20, 2011 at 11:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Hello ladies!! I have a quick question for you. My sister-in-law to be set me up with a makeup artist that she frequently uses. I know he does great work but I'm just wondering if I'm being paying to much. He quoted me $95, for "full face," lashes and a touch up kit. What do you think? Thanks in advance Smiley smile

Thanks for the tip Ashley! I was really thinking about the "natural" look. Of course my girls are saying absolutly not lol. They want to see some color on my eyes, blush, pretty lips etc...

My MUAs standard wedding day makeup runs $125- but she is in one of the cheapest areas of the country!

I use a lady in my hometown frequently, and she is $75 for non-wedding makeup. Her rate for wedding day is $200.

Also- keep in mind your MUA's travel expenses! She has to pack up, travel to your venue with everything, etc... $95 is a freaking STEAL!

You can still do the natural look, just expect the make-up to be applied heavily (you don't necessarily feel the 'heaviness' though!)

Edit: Depending on where you live - here in NY it's [ideally] 20%

Nope that sounds like a wonderful price ... but if you are concerned you can always look at Lord & Taylor, they do make up for free ... I went there for a trial and loved it, and it felt nice and light, even though it was a bit heavy when I looked at myself in the mirror ...

@soontobe...no Lord & Taylor within 3 hrs of me. But that is a good option! I could look into some department stores makeup counters. I know we have a MAC in Saks.

You can do the makeup counters- but be warned. If they do your makeup, it is customary to purchase something. Also, they will do your makeup for an everyday look- not a wedding day look appropiate for pictures. That the real value of a makeup artist. They do your makeup so it looks good and photographs even better. Alot of makeups photograph shiny- and your average makeup counter salesperson won't know which could and which won't.

Oh wow, I didn't even think about the way makeup would photograph! Like I said, I'm a liner and gloss chick. I'm glad I posted this. You guys are always such a great help!! Smiley smile

So how did your trial go Thursday?

I'm getting married in NOLA and got quotes for these kinds of prices too. Since I'm just an eyeliner and gloss girl myself, I found the prices outrageous and too much to expect of my BMs already travelling from all over the country/world.

So I came up with the idea of posting on Craigslist for pro MUAs to make me a flat fee offer for 10 faces (me, the BMs and 2 mothers). I have been inundated with great offers ranging from $35-300 per face (including eyelashes & touch up for me). I picked 2 and they both offered FREE trials next week.

Since that was such a success, I've been posting for offers for all kinds of stuff (calligraphers, dj, band). In this economy there are tons of professional vendors waiting to make a deal with you if you solicit a bid.

Makes me feel better. I just can't stomach all the wedding price-gouging! Just add the word "wedding" or "bridal" and suddnely the price is astronomical!

That's really really cheap actually. I usually charge anywhere between 200-300 for updo & makeup. Touch up kit is not included as I usually come back before the ceremony to do it for them. The price could be more base on how far they are and if they want different look or hairdo for the reception.

For the bride wanting quote for 10 ppl you may want to ask the mua how many assistants they are bringing ....

@Tram, Thanks, one of them has 1, and the other has 2. I was concerned about the same thing.

Mine is $85 for makeup, and $30 for hair . My MOH doesn't want her's done she wants to do it herself. This is probably our biggest splurge and FH doesn't know about it or he would make me cancel it!
