Bridal Hair & Makeup Suggestions and Recommendations - San Francisco Bay Area

Laura, on June 25, 2019 at 10:45 AM Posted in California Planning 0 9
I just received an initial quote last night for on-site bridal hair and makeup from an artist in the Bay Area... And nearly choked at the $600 price tag! Now, I understand that I don't want to mess around for this kind of thing, and I know that this artist is highly recommended and can charge that amount because she is highly experienced and makes her brides look flawless (and many people who live in this area can afford to pay that price), but I am wondering, is there any hope for those of us who have maybe $400 (or less) budgeted for that? Do any of you lovely ladies out there have any suggestions or recommendations? I am also interested in having an artist who can do hair and makeup for my bridesmaids... In an ideal world, I would like to gift the hair styling to my bridesmaids, then provide them the option to add on makeup if they choose, without them paying an outrageous amount (ideally below $125 for the makeup?).

Thank you in advance!!!

I would try thumbtack there’s a lot of artists on there, unfortunately I don’t think you’ll find anything less especially in the Bay! I’m in the bay as well and my makeup and hair for myself,3 bridesmaid, and my mom is going to be around $1k with travel! I’m having a different makeup and hair person! If you don’t mind sharing who your makeup person is!?

    Hi Laura,

I'm in the SF Bay Area also. I found a HMUA here on the Wedding Wire vendor search, then I actually met her in person at one of the SF bridal shows. Her company is D Anaya Beauty Makeup.

She's charging me $160 for my trial (next month)--that's hair and makeup. I think her prices just went up to $100 each, but because I booked her at the bridal show, I got a discount to $80 each.

But she quoted me some prices for the wedding. For my bridesmaids, she'll charge $75 each for makeup and $85 each for hair. My hair and makeup will be a little more, but I think I calculated the whole thing (trial and wedding) costing $500, which is a little bit lower than the $600 you were quoted. Might be worth checking her out. She has a studio in Mountain View, but she will travel. I hope this helps.

Ugh I know how you feel. I am also in the bay area and finding someone was definitely hard especially because I didn't realize how expensive it would be. I looked all on Instagram just using hashtags and ended up finding both a hair hair and makeup artist on there. Instagram is great because they post their work so you'll be able to see if you like the looks they create. Good luck!

    Hi there Laura!

As Cristy already mentioned, the WeddingWire vendor directory is a great place to search for a HMUA in your area. You can click on the map view, as opposed to list, and see on a map where the different artists are.

You can also filter the selection down further by hair and makeup services, including on-site!

Are you looking for a HMUA to come on-site to your venue? Where is it?

Hi all! Thank you so much for your replies and advice. Thumbtack seems to be full of HMUAs, and then Cristina, that's so smart to cross reference with their Instagram accounts. I'm still searching around (though I have one I really like) and fortunately the quotes I have received have been MUCH more reasonable!

My comment is a bit delayed, but I came in here to recommend D Anaya as well and was so excited to see that someone else on here is working with her! My trial isn't until next spring but I've heard great things, and her prices are very reasonable.

That is exciting!! I like the photos of her work, and her prices were very reasonable. After I found her on WW, I emailed her, and we talked a bit. Her prices were significantly lower than most of the others I had researched in the Bay Area. And she was willing to travel, which I've heard can be a problem. So, we set a date for a trial (months away), and then I was so surprised to see her at the bridal show. I ran over to meet her in person, and we just connected right away. My trial is next weekend!!! She's bringing someone for my hair too. I'm so excited!!

There are a lot of affordable MUA in the Bay Area but the hardest part is FINDING THEM!! Go on Instagram and look up hashtags like #sfmakeup #bayareamua #sfweddingmakeupartist etc

As for me, I’m getting charged $300 for hair and makeup and $120 for each bridesmaid ($60 hair + $60 makeup). The trial is the same price as the bridesmaids

$600 for the bride alone? Most are half that for hair and makeup at $250-$300 for the bride and $100-$180 per bridesmaid... Check local beauty salons, beauty colleges and here on wedding wire. Give them your total budget for you and your girls and see if they can work within that
