bridal hair - how much is too much?

I think I have it narrowed down to 2 options. I need all the advice I can get! First: Is a distant friend of mine. She quoted me a very reasonable price including trials (between $125-175). First: Is a distant friend of mine. She quoted me a very reasonable price including trials (between $125-175). However, she told me that she wasn't big on up dos, and I can't seem to find a picture of her previous up do work anywhere. She is willing to travel to where I'll be getting ready.

Second: Is a salon I found on yelp. They are literally right next to the hotel I'll be getting ready in. They said $75 for trial, $225 for bride's hair and $75 travel/set up fee. I have seen pictures of their work and it is beautiful.

Clearly there's a big gap between the two prices and I am not sure what I want to do. If I were to do the second place, that would be $300 for my hair alone and I personally feel that that's way too much. It is almost double of my first option. But I'm not sure if I want to risk going in for a trial in case I end up not liking it AT ALL. Thoughts, anyone?

I would stay away from the friend. If she's not comfortable with updos and that's a something you want, go for someone who can do what you want. You also don't want to secretly resent her later because you hated the way your hair came out on your wedding day. It can be hard to maintain a relationship that way.

Also, have you looked for other hair people? I'm in a similar are to you (LA/OC) market where people pay bunch money for these kinds of things and for those prices they should be including hair AND makeup.

I think I found an alternative. I called a million other places and found a girl who does up dos for $150 and her trial is optional. Her pictures are solid on yelp that I would feel confident in not doing the trial if I had to (that alone is $85). She is waiving the travel fee because I'm right by where her salon is. The types of questions she was asking me made me think that clearly she's done this many times before. Now how to tell the friend that I found something else kindly....?
