Bridal Entrance Music

Neubie68, on May 26, 2010 at 10:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

So I need help selecting a song for my entrance. I really want to have Canon in D, but my fiance is a music teacher and thinks that song is over played so would prefer not to use it. This is where I need help thinking of alternative options....I want to go with a song that could be played by a string quartet (as this is what we will be using for the ceremony music). Any suggestions?

There's a lady on youtube.. mirandawong, she plays piano, but all of her music is amazing.. I'm using her for most of my ceremony music besides what someone will actually sing.. check her out! http://www.youtube.com/user/mirandaww6#grid/user/9B0E21F00582FC2C

Consider a more contemporary song, might require they learn something new but looks like you have more than enough time.

I agree with your fiance and love when my clients use songs that are special to them. The ultimate goal is to make your wedding YOURS and unique without being tacky, can't get more personal than choosing a song that means something to the two of you...maybe the runner up in "first dance" competition Smiley smile

I've heard Over the Rainbow used and I thought it was beautiful. I am like you and I think that I am going to use Canon in D, but I am thinking about using Over the Rainbow when the mothers walk or the bridal party walks.

Hello all my name is tony, I"m a wedding dj with tons of weddings under my belt. just wanted to say hello and introduce my self. I read the comment on the bridal party walk in music, over the rainbow is a great song for the parents to walk down the isle and then cannon in d for the wedding party.

Amber....Love Miranda Wong and just mentioned her to someone else! Listen to "Romantic Canon in D". It's beautiful and different enough that it almost makes Canon a whole new song without losing it's beauty. I know how your FH feels though because I am a wedding musician and will not have Canon as my entrance just because I've played it so much. Maybe it would be best to ask him since he has the music knowledge Smiley smile Good luck!

I am stuck on the same issue of music. I know what I want played for everything else, but I just can't figure out what I want for the processional. Since your fiance is into music I'd definately get his input. Everything feels overdone or not special enough. Good luck in your planning.

When my husband and I got married, Canon in D was the last thing I wanted to hear! Yes, it's a beautiful song, and I still love playing it, but I wanted something different.

We used "Gate at Kiev" from "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky for my processional, "Cantique de Jean Racine" for the unity candle, and "Hallelujah Chorus" for the recessional. I was having a terrible time choosing something for the bridesmaids, so I just told my musicians to pick something themselves - I still have no idea what they played!

Since your fiance is a musician, definitely get his input. It might be his favorite part of wedding planning! Since you'll have a string quartet, consider "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba", "Air on G" and the Brandenburg Concerto.

Here are some more suggestions: Bach Brandenburg #5 (last movement), Campra Rigaudon, Charpentier Prelude from Te Deum, Handel Air from Watermusic Suite, Mouret Rondeau, Purcell Rondeau from incidental music 'Abdelazar', Purcell Rondeau from the Fairy Queen Suite, Purcell Trumpet Tune, Purcell Trumpet Voluntary, Stanley Trumpet Voluntary, Bach Air on the G String, Bach Arioso, Bach Sheep May Safely Graze, Vivaldi Largo from Winter, Vivaldi Spring or Autumn, Handel La Rejouissance from Fireworks Suite, Handel Entrance of the Queen of Sheba. Your string quartet should have a play list of their repertoire. You may want to ask them for advise. String quartets can also play contemporary music, but you will need a quartet that either has the selection you are looking for, or is able to arrange that for you. Our most popular contemporary request last year was Bitter Sweet Sypmphony. Good luck!

For the Bride's procession, I like "La Rejouissance" from Music for the Royal Fireworks (Handel) and "Ode to Joy" (Beethoven). Also, more contemporary selections are very popular now, so if you have a group that can do custom arrangements, choose something that is meaningful to you. Most quality groups can make a workable arrangement from sheet music (vocal/piano arrangements generally transfer great to a group of 3 or 4), so your only limitation should be whether or not it's in print. Your musicians can let you know if they can find it and work with you on selection.

Try a compromise - you pick your processional and have your fiance pick the recessional! I always recommend brides go with their heart's desire when it comes to their processional - after all, you are the one walking down the aisle!

By the way, there are different arrangements of Canon out there. Perhaps your string quartet, or fiance, could custom arrange one for you!

I love the suggestions on this thread! I am having a pianist and cellist, and it's only about a minute to walk down the aisle. Any ideas with those specifically?
