Bridal Dance Aprons...HELP NEEDED!

TheLuckiest, on April 21, 2013 at 8:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Ok gals, I need your help. I need a cute apron with really deep pockets...

Mom and I are concerned that the money bag will send the wrong message...and the MOH is talking about doing a shot with everyone who pays to dance with me, so she says just holding up the corners of the apron is not a good idea. Little sisters, LOL! Oh, and people like to fold money into cute shapes, so it might not stay put in shallow pockets!

I really don't want to have to make an apron myself...but I may have to if I can't find an awesome one. Where did you get yours??

For those of you unfamiliar with the bridal dance, it's a Polish tradition that just about everyone (Polish or not) seems to do here in southwestern Pennsylvania. FFIL's family is part Polish...and Kopec is a Polish last name, so we're going to keep this fun tradition alive. I'm thinking a tropical hawaiian print apron would be fun since I'm moving there to join FH at Joint Base Pearl Harbor - Hickam only 2 days after the wedding.

Although I can't help with this. I would also like to know as I am also from the SW PA area and will be doing this as well.

Maybe try Bed Bath and Beyond.

@Tracy E...I really want pockets that reach down the whole length of the apron. I now see why everyone switched to those satin bags...it's so hard to find a good apron! I may even just ask my seamstress if she can make me one...I want to be able to take the apron with my after the wedding. I'll let you know what I find out!

Etsy has lots of aprons with vendor pockets, but I honestly think we would need bigger pockets so people can drop the money in. Why is this so hard?! lol!

This is all I found so far. Looks like I might need to contact the my alterations specialist and see what she might be able to cook up.

I bet if you contact someone on Etsy they could customize one for you with bigger pockets!

FH is polish so we are doing this too, but his mom made the apron!

Alright, I contacted someone on etsy with pictures of an apron that would have worked, but I didn't really like the style of it. I never heard back from the person, so I decided to scope out the local walmart's patterns.

Here's what I found: http://www.simplicity.com/p-2142-misses-vintage-aprons.aspx#t-0. The apron I'm making is the round one with the big pocket that takes up almost the entire front. The eyelet was pre-gathered, so that worked out well. Last night I completed step one of the directions in addition to pinning and cutting out the entire apron. Step one was to baste the eyelet on the pocket, then sew bias tape over the edge. Here's what I have done so far (1 looks curved because I laid it across my lap to see the size, then I laid it on the apron to see the size)...

I think this is simpler than creating an apron from scratch. if the only issue is the pockets, buy a cute apron then just sew new pockets on the front. most apron pockets are just a cut piece of fabric sewn on top, nothing fancy.

use a stich ripper to remove the pocket it comes with, cut your fabric and top stich it. or have your seamstress sew the new pockets on. easier and cheaper than creating the whole thing.

also, have you looked at anthropologie? the cutest aprons ever.
