Breastfeeding moms; feeding during your wedding... ideas???

Melissa, on July 13, 2017 at 3:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

Any breast feeding moms that will be getting married while they're still breastfeeding? I am currently breastfeeding my 3 month old baby that refuses to take the bottle and I'm wondering how I will possible be able to feed her while in my dress. What ideas do you have about breastfeeding on you wedding day?

Would the baby maybe be started on solid food by your wedding? They'll be 7ish months old then and I feel like that's about when breastfeeding becomes more supplemental than primary nutrition.

I would try nursing or pumping before the ceremony, you have some time to try and introduce the bottle. My sister exclusively pumps and to get him to take a bottle she bought special nipples that were supposed to be like the breast and that seems to work for my nephew.

@Little demon Yeah but at 7 months she will still be feeding a lot. :/

@sovatastic I have bought her 5 different nipples and she doesn't like any, I been pumping but she never drinks it so I end up throwing it out Smiley sad(

Are you in any nursing mothers groups? Sometimes they have great ideas and are super helpful. My sister got a lot of help from a breastfeeding group she was in sponsored by our local hospital.

I weaned. I know it's not for everyone but I could not see myself breast feeding during a reception or ceremony. Ughh! Good luck!!

You can start introducing sippy cups around 6 months and she could possibly take it from that.

Also, for your Breastmilk, you can freeze it in the bags and defrost it so you aren't wasting it, if you can.

ETA: is it just you offering a bottle or is dad, grandma or anyone else trying? I had a baby I was watching and she wouldn't take a Bottle if her mom was there but would take it for me when she wasn't. And then learned to take it when her dad was giving it to her. Someone can also try putting one of your "dirty" shirts near her or around the bottle while trying to give it to her.

@Melissa what bottles have you tried?

I know it would've been impossible to breastfeed in my dress, and it would've been difficult to get away from everything.

@ Rene W. How old was your baby when you weaned?

@Faith well i throw it out because I try giving it to her over a 6 hour period since that's how long you can leave you milk out before it goes bad. We all have tried to give it to her and she just won't take it. I'll keep trying tho because I really need her to be on the bottle before our wedding.

@Mrs Richmond I'm trying comotomo rn and I've tried tommy tippie, nil, the hospital nipples, and dr browns.

Not a mom so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what do working moms do if their babies don't take bottles?

My son is stubborn with bottles as well. He uses the playtex ones..I forgot what they're called but the ones that you use bags for. He had to take the bottle when I had a temp job. It just took a lot of trying over and over and over. He's 5 months and won't take more than 3 ounces at a time. Start with giving one ounce at a time and have someone else feed. My son won't take it at all if he sees me. Don't give up Smiley smile keep trying a he consistent. When I was working I thought he was going to starve himself but he caved. He just ate smaller and a little bit more frequent. Keep in mind breastfed babies may take less ounces than babies that started on bottles.

@Laura, a lot of the time they'll take it if they're hungry enough. Sometimes getting them to take a bottle is hard but you have to work.

I've done a Tylenol syringe before because the baby I was watching just wouldn't take the bottle but I knew she had taken medicine before. And that worked.

Many babies who won't take a bottle , from Mom, will take it from someone else.

Given that your wedding is 4 months away you have time to work on that.

My daughter wouldn't take any bottle but she would drink breast milk out of a straw sippy cup . Try that Smiley smile

Baby should be ready to bottle feed by then, you can pump and let someone else help with feeding that day

You can start with some solid foods at 6 months, and the baby will naturally wean themselves. If nothing works out, just excuse yourself and feed your baby.

    Steak!!!

I'm just kidding. Not a mom. I am a supporter of whatever gets the baby fed, though!! My friend is doing baby-led weaning with my goddaughter and it's pretty cool. Good luck with whatever you decide, OP.

By the time your wedding comes around the baby will probably take a bottle...

My niece wouldn't take a bottle this young either because her mother hadn't gone back to work yet (so she was always around). Once mom went to work and the baby was with her grandparents, she had no choice. Eventually she got hungry enough that she took the bottle. A lot could change in the next couple of months.
