Breakfast for dinner

Katrina, on April 1, 2016 at 4:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

Me and my fiance are debating what we want to do for food at our reception. I love the idea of doing a brunch theme for dinner, i personally think its different but fun. He isn't super crazy about the idea. I wanted to hear peoples opinions on the matter, does anyone else think its a good idea or do you think it's tacky? EDIT - it would be brunch themed not breakfast, there would be an omelet station and prime rib as well as a mimosa bar. The wedding will be maybe 70 people and it's going to be very informal on the beach

Depending on how large your wedding is, I would worry about serving people cold rubbery eggs. Would you do it as a buffet? I would rather have dinner, personally. But... it could be really fun and yummy if executed properly.

Not so much tacky, just not sure it fits with an evening wedding. It's fine at home - in fact I love breakfast for dinner - but a wedding is a different story.

I love having breakfast for dinner at home from time to time, but I wouldn't do it for a wedding.

Leaning towards not my favorite idea. The only way I wouldn't be super bummed is if you got a great caterer who did filling versions of breakfast foods.

Well the place i am looking into would have an omelet station and a prime rib station which i think would be more appealing, but still not sure if its something we should do. We're doing a super casual beach wedding and I've never been crazy about super formal plated dinners

Someone made a thread about this a few weeks ago and a bunch of people thought it was a great idea, but I hate it. I don't even do breakfast for dinner at home, so at a wedding I would be pretty disappointed.

    I LOVE BRINNER!

This really depends on the size of your wedding and the location/caterer.

Certain breakfast foods need to be made on the spot (benedict will overcook if it needs to be transported a long time). I considered a very popular brunch spot for our wedding, and I knew it could be done.

I like the idea of an omelet station! When I think of brunch, I don't necessarily think of eggs.

    Things you could have:

    *Mimosas/champagne

    *Small desserts

    *Bacon

    *Sausages

    *Oysters/shrimp/crab legs

    *Carving stations

    *Fine cheeses

    *Pastries

    *Omelet Stations

    *Bagels and Lox

    *Benedicts (this could be tricky)

    *Pasta salad

    *Cucumber and tomato salads

*Creme brulee (only if someone is bruleeing on demand, my favorite restaurant here has a guy standing with a torch as you want some!)

It can be good if you host it right, not if it is like a Best Western breakfast buffet.

We are doing brunch for dinner. We have an awesome menu, and we're having a pretty casual wedding. I think it can work with the right brunch foods

I'm going to disagree with most of the other posters and say that I love breakfast menus at weddings, even evening weddings, especially if you're having a prime rib station. You just have to make sure to offer more than just eggs and potatoes and it seems like you're doing that. I say go for it!

If you're going to do brunch food, you should have a brunch timed wedding. Ceremony at noon, reception after?

Personally, I love the brunch idea, but my parents shut it down real quick. Since they're contributing to the wedding, I didn't push for it. I'm now wishing I had told them to keep their money and just did what we wanted lol

    Anyway, I'm pro-brunch

Our menu, if anyone wants it. Passed apps: mini breakfast sausages wrapped in pastry, deviled eggs with crispy leeks on top, and crostini with goat cheese and peaches. Buffet: assorted muffins/croissants, fresh fruit salad, green salad, quiche, pulled pork and sweet potato hash, creamy grits, sausage gravy, veggie creole gravy, and french toast with poached apples. We're also having a coffee bar, infused lemonade, and iced herbal tea, in addition to our bar. Plus several different nuice choices for mimosas. And cake!

I love this forum!!! As I was reading the OP, I thought to myself Lindsey is doing breakfast for dinner! I'm starting to remember specific details about people's weddings and I think that's so cool. I was gonna suggest an omelet station too. And steak if you can swing it would be awesome too. I love me some steak and eggs. And mimosas.

I don't even like the traditional breakfast foods at breakfast.

You could also do a sweet and savory chicken and waffle station. We had one in addition to other at it was wonderful.

    Sweet & Savory Waffle Bar

Toppings to include: Mixed Berries, Spiced nuts, Sautéed apples,

Sliced bananas, Whipped Sweet Cream, Cinnamon Honey Butter, Crispy Fried

    Chicken, Southwest Slaw, Chipotle Sauce

I don't love this idea for an evening wedding. If I got gussied up and was served breakfast foods instead of dinner food, I would be a little irritated. However, I think FH would LOVE this idea and probably eat all the bacon. lol

My fiancé and I talked about that, but our venue is very formal and I didn't want it to look like we took from the food budget to get the right venue. That being said, if it fits with the theme and look you are going for I am all for it!!

I think it depends on the formality of your wedding. If it's a relatively informal evening reception where I can wear a nice sundress and wedges, I'm 100% game. If I'm wearing a nice cocktail dress, stilettos and there are formal centerpieces, not so much. The food part definitely sounds delicious, though!

Sorry....Not sure that I like this idea. It's ok if you are having a reception at noon and you are hosting brunch but as a guest, im not sure I would like breakfast food for a reception dinner. It's a beach wedding so I would think as a guest I would be expecting more seafood options...but have chicken too???
